In Destiny 2, the Ascendant Challenge is active in the Shattered Ruins this week. Here’s how to find and complete it.
Since the weekly reset on January 22, a new Ascendant Challenge is available again. Mastering it will reward you with powerful gear.
Here’s how to get to the Ascendant Challenge: Visit Petra Venj in the Dreaming City. Petra is located next to the spawn point this week. The challenge awaits you in her inventory under the Weekly Bounty section.
How to complete the Ascendant Challenge in the Shattered Ruins
The requirement for the bounty: Pick up the bounty from Petra for 1500 Glimmer and first find a consumable item called “Queen’s Leaf Tincture.” This item opens your mind to the secrets of the Dreaming City for 30 minutes. It can randomly be found in various chests throughout the city.
You can also buy Queen’s Leaf Tincture from a secret vendor.
Here’s how to access the Ascendant Realm: This week, the portal opens in the area where the Oracle is located. It is pretty well hidden above one of the outer rocks.
Keep in mind that you can only see and enter it if you take the Queen’s Leaf Tincture beforehand.

In the Ascendant Realm: The task this week sounds simple but is not. You only have to overcome a jumping course to get to the top and eliminate a boss there. However, many of these Taken portals are hidden along the way that can push you down: Be patient and work your way up step by step. If you have trouble, Andy Edition shows you the way in the embedded video starting at 2:40, where he also finds a lore object (3:23).
Important: Apparently, there are two versions of this challenge. In a second version, there are Taken bombs on the way up. You can shoot these before they explode. You can see this version in the video here:
The boss is a Taken Cabal named “Val Eralus, the Obedient” and is the same in both versions. Fire your power ammo at him, and he should be defeated fairly quickly. He doesn’t have any special mechanics. The recommended power level is 550, so it’s best to go in with a fireteam.
Don’t forget to loot the chest at the end. Only then will the Ascendant Challenge be mastered.
The reward: With this Ascendant Challenge bounty, you will receive top loot. The reward consists of Ascendant Shards and Powerful Gear that will allow you to obtain items beyond the soft cap of power level 500.
