Destiny 2 launches the Guardian Games 2021. The event brings back a rare Exotic and tempts you with a brand new masterpiece catalyst for “Revenant-Aspect”. We reveal how you can obtain the item and how powerful the Exotic MG will be.
In Destiny 2, the Guardian Games 2021 start this evening, April 20,. The last event of Season 13 represents the Olympic Games of the future. The Guardians compete in a sporting competition for medals, accolades, and the winner will receive a year of glory – but many players couldn’t care less about these things. They want exotic firepower.
What you are keen on: The event awaits with the strong Exotic Revenant-Aspect. The heavy machine gun in Cabal style is likely the main reason for most to participate actively.
- If you didn’t give your all during the Guardian Games 2020, you had no chance of earning the Exotic for the entire year.
- On MeinMMO, you and our reader Marek write: “I missed the Exotic MG last year; this year, I’ll definitely be there. Which class wins is completely irrelevant to me, I play all three chars equally badly.” (via MeinMMO)
- Revenant-Aspect returns now with an Exotic quest, for which you will have time from April 20 to May 11. Unlike last year, you can earn the event weapon very quickly.
- A detailed test of the Exotic and its unique shield mechanics is available here: Revenant-Aspect in Review – New Top Exotic or Dust Magnet?
What’s new: Additionally, Revenant-Aspect receives its Exotic masterpiece catalyst for the first time this year. Hence, the Exotic has arrived in its final form. MeinMMO reveals what you need to do for the catalyst and what advantages the upgrade brings.
So far, not all exotic weapons can become masterpieces – hence, Guardians rejoice every time a new catalyst comes into play. More information on this here: All Masterwork Catalysts in Destiny 2 and how to obtain them
Guardian Games 2021: Making Revenant-Aspect a Masterwork
What the catalyst can do: The Exotic Revenant-Aspect features a special shield that protects you when you unleash sustained fire on your enemies. Exactly this shield is enhanced by the catalyst.
The new perk “Legion’s Bulwark” – about “Wall of the Legion” – gives you these bonuses:
- Increases the strength of the Arc shield. The shield becomes about 4 times stronger with the Kat.
- Reloads the magazine by 100 rounds when the shield breaks.
- With quick kills, you generate Orbs of Power that charge your Super or are important for the “Charged with Light” mechanic.
This further supports gameplay like stomping across the field like a wild shooting Cabal colossus. If your enemies manage to break your shield, you’ll be standing there with a loaded weapon and can retaliate.

This is the source for the catalyst: If you turn in medals at the Tower during the Guardian Games, you have a chance at the catalyst. The chances seem to be quite high.
However, you must first possess Revenant-Aspect – without the appropriate Exotic, there’s no catalyst.
This is how you level the item: Once you have the catalyst, you need to level it up. This unlocks the potential of the Exotic. Here’s what you need to do:
- Earn 50 points through medals. Higher-value medals yield more points.
- Complete 3 “Contender Cards”. These cards are new for the Guardian Games. You can get them for 100 laurels from Eva in the Tower and need to complete random tasks in Strikes, Gambit, or PvP per card.
- Collect 90 “Competitive Spirit” through kills with machine guns in the daily focus playlist (in the Tower). Precision kills give you faster progression.
- Defeat 700 enemies with Revenant-Aspect.
Whether you really have to complete all the tasks mentioned above or if the missions count together is currently unknown. However, it is a fact that you should start unlocking and leveling the catalyst during the Guardian Games 2021. If there are new insights into the event, the Exotic, and the catalyst, we will keep you updated on MeinMMO.
Origin of the weapon: Did you know that Revenant-Aspect refers to the Cabal Empress Caiatl, with whom we only recently concluded a weapon retirement in the current Season 13? More about the turtle lady and the daughter of raid boss Calus can be found here:
