This event is about: The Festival of the Lost is Destiny’s version of Halloween. The event takes place annually in the autumn and has its roots in Destiny 1.
Atmospheric candles, pumpkins, and costumes create the right spooky atmosphere. The loot is also not to be missed, as you can collect cosmetics and weapons during the festivities. Of course, you will pay for Halloween with candy.

What you need to know about the Halloween event “Festival of the Lost 2020”
This is the event period: The Festival of the Lost takes place from October 6 to November 3, 2020. Start and end are aligned with the Weekly Reset.
Are there any participation requirements? No, the festival can be celebrated by all players. That means, whether you own every expansion and a season pass or are a Guardian with the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light – all rewards and activities are freely accessible.
If you started Destiny 2 for the first time, you only need to complete the introductory quest in the Cosmodrome to unlock the Tower as a social space and reach a power level of 770.
Your point of contact: During the Festival of the Lost, you will find Eva Levante in the Tower. The lovingly called “Space Grandma” NPC is your point of contact.
- You receive quests and bounties from her
- Eva distributes event rewards
- Visit her to receive the “Mask Helm” or to exchange candy for bounties
How does the Halloween event keep players engaged until Beyond Light finally arrives?
Since the major expansion Beyond Light has been pushed to November 10, the Festival of the Lost comes at just the right time for many Guardians. The prolonged Season 11 gives a new incentive to draw some Guardians back to the screens.
Here’s what you can do:
- Event-specific triumphs: The Festival of the Lost 2020 has new triumphs. These can only be completed during the event. A week after the event ends, Bungie will revise many triumphs and titles in Destiny 2
- Event-specific bounties: The bounties from Eva grant Glimmer, XP, Glimmer, and Chocolate Coins. The objectives follow the familiar pattern of weekly, daily, and additional bounties.
- The Haunted Forest returns as an event activity and has been made more rewarding
The Haunted Forest – How Destiny 2 intends to scare you
What you need to know about the activity: The Haunted Forest is a dark version of the Infinite Forest on Mercury for up to 3 players. Here you must venture deeper into your nightmares under time pressure and fight against changing bosses. It is pitch dark, and you will be pursued by an unbeatable axe-swinger.
The activity was first available in 2018 and has since been a staple of the Halloween event.
The further you progress in the 15 minutes, the harder Destiny makes it to advance with negative modifiers. To succeed, you have access to special perks with your event masks.
You can start the activity from the Orbit or in the Tower, with 2 options:
- Haunted Forest: Offers an integrated matchmaking system and always fills your team to 3 Guardians (recommended power level is 750)
- Locked Haunted Forest: Automatic matchmaking is disabled – you enter alone or with a pre-made fireteam (recommended power level is 750)
Here are the new features for 2020: If the boss remains at the end of your time limit, there are rewards. New this time is that 6 treasure chests will appear. You can open the first one normally. The last 5 can be opened with a “Cipher Decoder.”
These items drop randomly during the event from all activities. To find the “Cipher Decoder,” you must speak to Spider in the Tangled Shore at least once. You can then stack 25 Decoders and, if desired, open all 5 chests in the Haunted Forest.
These are the rewards that the Halloween event brings in 2020
This is how you get the rewards: During the Festival of the Lost, you can obtain your rewards in 2 ways: from Eva and at the end of a Haunted Forest run. Additionally, you can indulge in numerous event items in the Eververse.
Once you have unlocked access to the Haunted Forest, you can acquire bounties, masks, and other event rewards from Eva. You exchange the rewards for Chocolate Coins and candies. You receive these when you eliminate enemies or complete activities with the event masks.
At Eva, you can also complete event-specific triumphs that reward you with a Ghost Shell, a ship, and a mummy-style Sparrow (all exotic). You will also have the chance to unlock a free emblem in the Bungie store and a discount code for a new pin.
In the Haunted Forest supply boxes, you will find:
- Random rolls of the event weapons “Haunting Tale” and “BrayTech Werewolf”
- Masks
- Chocolate Coins
- Event shaders
Festival Helm and new masks: You will receive the event helm, meaning the masquerade helm, from Eva. You can choose between a version with Void, Arc, or Solar element. The helm has a power level – but only until the event ends on November 3.
The 5 new and the event masks from previous years can be activated as ornaments on the helm.
Festival-specific mods: You can install event-specific armor mods in your masquerade helm again. However, the significant bonuses are active only in the Haunted Forest.
You can choose from 3 mods:
- Higher Purpose: significantly increased damage resistance in the air, significantly increased damage against all enemies, increased drop chance for heavy ammo on kills
- Vampiric Touch: significantly increased damage against challenging enemies, health regeneration on precision kills, increased drop chance for heavy ammo on kills
- Energetic Assassin: Precision kills grant grenade and melee energy, significantly increased damage against phantoms, increased drop chance for heavy ammo on kills
Festival-specific weapons: Through candy or in the Haunted Forest supply boxes, you can secure 2 event-specific weapons in 2020: the two auto rifles “Haunting Tale” (450 RPM) and “BrayTech Werewolf” (600 RPM).
The two auto rifles are remasters from 2018 and 2019 and come with new, random perk combinations.
Event-specific Eververse content for the Festival of the Lost
What does Tess have? Tess sells Halloween-themed cosmetics in the Eververse. This includes costumes, emotes, and a new witch broom.
All items can be purchased during the event duration with both Silver (real money currency) and Glimmer (in-game currency). Only the finisher “One-Inch-Punch” is available only for Silver.
With this, Bungie responds to criticism that the best festival items are only available for paying users.
There are also event-specific costumes for Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans. These are universal ornaments, so you can activate them on all legendary armor (Armor 2.0).
In 2019, each set cost 6,000 Glimmer or 1,500 Silver. If the prices vary this year, we will update them as soon as possible.
