In Destiny 2 many Guardians are currently shortening their path to the new Exotic weapon Bad Juju with AFK farming of materials. However, this seemingly harmless trick also annoys some players. If done half-heartedly, it can ruin the gaming experience for others.
This is the farming method in question: Many Guardians who want to grab the new exotic Pulse Rifle Bad Juju and their Masterwork Catalyst will probably have to spend a lot of planetary materials.
But not everyone has enough of it or can quickly get some from Spider. Therefore, some Guardians are now resorting to an old farming method that has recently gained popularity again due to the Bad Juju quest.
They go into the forges of the Black Armory DLC and receive certain materials even for failed runs – and all completely AFK, that is, without actually playing the game. They either redeem them directly in the Tribute Hall for the necessary tributes or trade them with other vendors to ultimately get the remaining materials from the vendor Spider.
This method allows for continuous farming; you won’t be kicked for inactivity, you can essentially let your PC or console run overnight, and the next day you can enjoy a lot of additional resources.
What is the problem with this method? The trick is quite harmless in itself. If executed correctly, AFK farmers remain among themselves. By lowering the power level below a certain threshold, they are matched with like-minded players and not with players who are seriously attempting to master the Forge.
Thus, no one who simply wants to play the Forge should be restricted or disturbed. In theory. Because not every farmer is that considerate and adjusts their power level accordingly – either out of ignorance or sheer laziness. As a result, firstly, the farm trick does not work and farmers get kicked for inactivity as early as the first round. Secondly, they ruin the run for the rest of the 3-player team.
Many players are currently complaining about this: It is already anything but easy to find enough players for the forges. Now, due to the popularity of the farm trick and the hunt for the new Weapon Exotic of Season 7 , many more Guardians are joining who are AFK, meaning not participating in the match. This happens more frequently, is annoying, and often very frustrating for many players – especially when this activity still plays a role outside of farming.
Some of them therefore demand: If you’re already AFK farming, at least be considerate and do it among yourselves. Lower your power level below 500 so that you are not mixed with regular players.
The complaints are also not new. When the forges were brand new in Season 5, a very similar method was used to farm lore. Thousands of players complained about this and demanded that Bungie do something about the AFKers. Now this farm trick is back in the spotlight because of Bad Juju, and the complaints are flaring up again.
It remains to be seen whether Bungie will do something against this farming method. The popular farming trick in the Menagerie was quickly shut down by the studio. Whether it will happen here as well remains to be seen.
What do you think of this method? Should Bungie shut it down like in the Menagerie? Or should the trick remain in the game? Have you also encountered the AFK problem in the Forge?
