With the start of Season 5, Bungie introduced an exotic weapon ornament for the hand cannon Pikass in Destiny 2, which is clearly dedicated to the legendary chicken Colonel.
What is Colonel anyway? Colonel is actually a “she”, a hen that resides on the Farm at the beginning of Destiny 2. The hen gained fame as Cayde-6’s mascot, to whom the Guardians dedicated numerous memes.
Cayde simply took the hen and kept her as a “good friend”, as he describes it himself. After his death, Colonel can be found exactly where Cayde-6 used to stand in the Tower.
A petition was even started for the Colonel to be adopted by the Guardians after Cayde’s death. But what does the feathered creature have to do with the exotic hand cannon Pikass?
The new weapon ornament is dedicated to the hen: Like most cosmetic items, you will only receive the new ornament “Honor Salute for the Colonel” in the Eververse. It changes the appearance of the weapon and depicts the Colonel on the magazine of the Pikass.
However, the real kicker is the trigger, or actually the hammer of the weapon, which thanks to the ornament truly becomes a little chicken!
So now you have the Colonel right in front of you during every shootout! It’s almost like an adoption, isn’t it?
The fans celebrate the new Colonel ornament: In the Destiny subreddit, players are particularly enthusiastic about the new trigger of the weapon. Especially the effect that the chicken imitates the typical pecking when firing the weapon brings joy. Now the Guardians only lack the appropriate sound when pulling the trigger.
By the way, the weapon ornament is not the first tribute to the hen. There is already an exotic emote that shows the Colonel on the Guardian’s arm.
Will there be more Colonel references? Whether Bungie will continue to use the famous hen in the future is unknown. How about a weapon that shoots sesame seeds? After all, the Colonel’s favorite dish is muesli with sesame seeds.
