More and more information about Destiny 2 is coming to light. Early players were able to explore the European Dead Zone (EDZ) and play around with public events. Find out here what to expect at the launch of Destiny 2.

It was already known that public events would return in Destiny 2. These are optional activities in the “open world” that other players can join at any time.
A squad from Dualshockers has now ventured into the EDZ to thoroughly test public events.
The public events in Destiny 2 feature several innovations compared to those in Destiny 1:
- They are now displayed directly on the overview map. This way, every Guardian knows when and where such an event will take place. The loot is also shown.
- New are also the heroic public events. There will be unique ways to trigger these events. As in the predecessor, the heroic activities offer an increased difficulty – and better loot.
- There are supposed to be more varied “Public Events”.
The Cabal want to exploit the planet’s resources
In a heroic public event called “Cabal Excavation,” the goal is to stop the Cabal from harvesting resources. At the beginning, a large drill is lowered from a Cabal ship, which immediately begins harvesting resources.
The Guardians’ task is to prevent the harvesting. To do this, all participating players must stay within a radius around the harvesting site, while Cabal rain down from all angles, eager to attack the Guardians.
But that’s not all. While you are busy with the Cabal, orbital laser beams rain down, quickly taking out inattentive Guardians.
To trigger the heroic mode, you must destroy a regularly passing ship before the event ends. It’s a tricky task, as you have to deal with the foot soldiers and the Cabal’s laser beams simultaneously.
Once the ship is destroyed, you will have to face a miniboss who, according to testers, can take a lot of punishment. In the following video from Dualshockers, you can watch the heroic public event:
It’s raining Glimmer
In further public events, the Glimmer harvesting by Fallen must be stopped. Harvesting resources seems to be popular. Triggering the heroic mode is significantly more difficult here. You must focus first on the drill before you can turn to the enemies.
This will become a problem, especially with random players who do not know the mechanics. Testers reported that randoms had often prevented the heroic mode.
You must approach a total of three drilling sites in this manner, without killing an enemy. If you did everything correctly, the third drill will explode, and you must defend the exposed Glimmer against the Fallen for an extended period until the event is successfully completed.

Cabal over Cabal
In another event, the goal is to prevent the Cabal from inserting a gigantic injector into the ground. So prepare yourself for orbital destruction again. Unlike the drilling event, you must eliminate three Psions here. After each Psion is taken down, the installation glows red – it’s time for the Guardians to keep their distance; otherwise, the machine’s engine will burn you.
The testers were unable to trigger the heroic mode, as it turned out to be too difficult. You have to destroy certain parts of the machine to immobilize the machine’s engine. If successful, it ends with a big boss fight.
In the final event shown, you must stop the Ether supply of the Fallen and destroy a gigantic Servitor. This large Servitor is supported by various companions, including three smaller Servitors that serve as a shield for the big boss. As soon as the three Servitors are taken out, the large Servitor becomes vulnerable.
Destroying the small Servitors also triggers the heroic mode. You can see the event in detail here:
