In Destiny 2, you can unlock the new sniper rifle “Adored” in 3 different ways. We show you the fastest way to do it and what the quest weapon can do in Beyond Light.
This is the weapon: With the launch of Beyond Light, Destiny 2 finally brings back the painfully missed pinnacle weapons. The legendary guns are now called quest weapons, and in Season 12, only one of them is coming to the game: the sniper rifle “Adored” (eng. Adored).
Instead of bringing a separate weapon for each activity that players could earn through a quest, you can obtain Adored in the playlist that you enjoy the most.
MeinMMO shows you how the individual quests look and how to unlock the new sniper quickly. Then we take a look at whether it’s worth carrying Adored in your inventory.
The quest “A Way with Many Paths” lets you have free choice
This is how to get the new sniper: Visit weapons master Banshee-44 in the Tower, he has 3 quests for you, all rewarding you with the same weapon. You can unlock Adored by playing in the Crucible, Gambit, or Strikes.
However, you can only accept one of the three tasks – it’s up to you to choose which activity you want to hunt in. Each of the three quests consists of 2 tasks.
- For the first step, it partially applies that you only need to have one sniper rifle in your inventory, but the required kills can come from any other weapon – precision hits with snipers grant more progress.
- In step 2, you only need to focus on one target. Whichever you complete first finishes the quest, and you can pick up the weapon from Banshee-44 in the Tower.
- Adored is then received directly as a full masterpiece.
Once you have unlocked the sniper rifle, you will also receive a quest “Paving Your Own Way” for a new skin. The ornament for Adored then reflects either Lord Shaxx (PvP), the Drifter (Gambit), or the Vanguard (Strikes). The quest is available from the respective NPCs.
Here are all 3 quests from Banshee at a glance:
- Strikes: “Path of the Vanguard”
- Defeat bosses (40), combatants (1,000), and collect points by defeating combatants with sniper rifles in Strikes.
- Achieve precision final blows (20) with sniper rifles or sniper eliminations in Strikes (35) without dying.
- PvP: “Path of the Crucible”
- Defeat Guardians in teams (500), earn Valor ranks (3), and collect points by defeating Guardians with sniper rifles in the Crucible.
- Achieve distance or precision final blows (each 5) with sniper rifles in the Crucible.
- Gambit: “Path of Gambit”
- Defeat combatants with precision damage (300), earn Infamy ranks (3), and collect points by defeating combatants with sniper rifles in Gambit.
- As a team, defeat Guardians (5) or Blockers (20) with a sniper rifle in Gambit.
No matter which quest line you choose, all can be completed in a few evenings and are not very time-consuming.
However, if you’re considering which task you should take on to get the new sniper as quickly as possible, we have found the fastest option for you.
Destiny 2: Quickly unlock the sniper “Adored” – Here’s how to do it in under 2 hours
The fastest way to the quest weapon: If you want to have the new sniper rifle Adored in under 2 hours, choose the quest line for the Vanguard.
- Make sure you have some Light charges – if you don’t have any, buy some from Petra Venj
- Start the Strike “The Corrupted” in the Dreaming City
- Do not follow the Strike route, but go to the Blind Well activity (access is via the area “Divalian Mist”)
- In the Blind Well, you will take out a lot of adds and shoot all the bosses with a sniper
- The first quest step should be completed after about 1.5 hours
- You can complete the second quest step directly afterwards
- Now use your sniper and either take down 35 targets without dying or achieve 20 precision kills
- Ideally, equip special ammo mods or sniper ammo mods and an additional sniper rifle in the power slot
In the video, YouTuber Jarv shows you how to find the Blind Well at the start of “The Corrupted” (from minute 3:13):
The best method here is, of course, to go hunting with a pre-made team. This way, you don’t disturb anyone in Strikes and have guaranteed support in the Blind Well. However, since it is a public activity, random Guardians can also come to help.
How good is the new quest weapon in Beyond Light?
Shortly before Beyond Light, Adored was presented, and criticism arose: “The sniper rifle looks just like Loved, only with a cloth around it!” The visual similarities cannot be denied, but what’s under the hood?
This is what Adored can do: The weapon belongs to the 90 archetype and deals Arc damage. It falls into the mid-range regarding rate of fire and damage, allowing you to carry a kinetic weapon for support.
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling (+10 range)
- Magazine: Improved Rounds (+10 range)
- 1st Perk Slot:
- Triple (3 rapid precision hits return 1 round to the magazine) or
- Killing Wind (kills grant temporarily better mobility, range, and handling)
- 2nd Perk Slot:
- Vorpal Weapon (increased damage against bosses, vehicles, and Guardians in their super)
- Snapshot Sights (aim down sights faster)
- Masterwork: +10 stability
What is the new quest weapon suitable for?
This is how it looks in PvE: For boss fights, you can deal a lot of damage from a safe distance thanks to Vorpal Weapon and Triple without reloading – make sure to equip the mod “Backup Mag” on Adored. This way, you’ll have 7 shots in a row.
What about PvP? In PvP, the new sniper does not reach the power of its source of inspiration Loved. Only after a kill does it come close to the handling and smoothness of the weapon from the Menagerie – which has now been retired.
The lower perk row of Killing Wind and Snapshot Sights still serves you well here, and the aim assist is convincing. However, some Guardians may be frustrated that Adored has a slightly higher zoom level.
In summary, the weapon can be said to perform well in all activities, even if it is not the ultimate choice. The good thing is that for relatively little effort, there’s a sniper rifle that you can comfortably carry in your inventory.
Have you already unlocked Adored – if so, which path did you choose? How do you like the new approach of not tying quest weapons to just one specific activity but allowing guardians to choose?
