In Destiny 2, you can now earn the new exotic sniper rifle Cloudstrike from Beyond Light. MeinMMO explains how to obtain this new weapon exotic.
What is the new exotic weapon about? Recently, the Beyond Light raid in the Deep Stone Crypt opened its doors in Destiny 2. And after mastering the new raid, a lot has changed. Now, two new weapon exotics can be earned from the new expansion, or a few fresh quests and challenges can be tackled on Europa.
Among the newly obtainable new exotics, alongside the sword “The Complaint”, is the exotic sniper rifle Cloudstrike. And MeinMMO explains to you how to obtain the new sniper.
How to Get Cloudstrike
In short: The new sniper is a random boss drop from Variks’ “Empire Hunt.”
Requirements: You need to unlock the sabotage upgrade “Europa Explorer I and II” with Variks.
- You need Part I to unlock Part II.
- Part II activates selectable difficulty levels for the Empire Hunts after successful completion.
- Then you can undertake Empire Hunts, from which you can earn Cloudstrike.
Unlocking Europa Explorer: For those who have already completed the Beyond Light campaign, the World First Clear of the new raid has now unlocked a new quest at the Exo Stranger on Europa – “Hard Rain.”
You can find the Exo Stranger in the southern area “Beyond.” The Exo Stranger will then send you to the current Shadow Zone (currently in the Eventide Ruins) on Europa, where you should complete public events and patrols, with powerful enemies and heroic events granting the most progress.
Once that is done, you need to return to the Exo Stranger. She rewards you with a pistol from the new Europa arsenal, but more importantly: she unlocks new quests for Variks’ sabotage missions, leading to new sabotage modifications – including “Europa Explorer I.” Select it and complete the corresponding task.
For “Europa Explorer I,” you need to achieve 50 kills each with kinetic and energy weapons on Europa, as well as 25 kills with the power weapon at the new location. Once you’ve done that, return to Variks. You can now also select “Europa Explorer II” with him.
Now you need to defeat 30 powerful enemies in the Empire Hunts. One mission run should be enough to farm the required 30 enemies. However, you should only complete the hunt when you reach 30 – this saves you the necessary resources for a new hunt.
After completion, return to Variks and hand in the quest. This will unlock the Empire Hunts for you.
Complete Empire Hunts and obtain Cloudstrike: You can now simply select the Empire Hunts on the map of Europa, including difficulty level. Currently, there’s one available, but these will likely rotate weekly.
It’s a bit strange that Cloudstrike is currently listed as a possible drop at all difficulty levels, but the chance is labeled as rare at all difficulty levels. Whether you have a correspondingly higher chance of this new weapon exotic at higher levels is still unclear.
At the first two difficulty levels, Master and Hero, the player search is still active, and the modifiers are relatively simple. So if you haven’t progressed far in your power level, don’t want to go solo, and don’t have a fixed team, one of these two difficulty levels is recommended.
But be prepared that you will need to run the hunt multiple times, as Cloudstrike is a random drop – even on the highest difficulty. When you get the weapon is therefore highly dependent on RNG.

The Reward – The Exotic Sniper Rifle Cloudstrike
What the new sniper can do: It is a sniper rifle for the special slot. It is therefore an energy weapon, and green ammo is required. Cloudstrike deals Arc damage.
- The exotic perk is called Deadly Polarity: Precision kills create a lightning strike at the target’s location.
- The second special perk is called Stormcaller, which generates a storm at the impact point with rapid precision hits.
