For a few weeks now, the Guardians have been asking: “Who is Hawthorne?”
If the name doesn’t ring a bell at all: With the reveal of Destiny 2 at the end of March 2017, pre-orders went live. Amazon listed the contents of the Collector’s Edition. This includes not only the main game and the expansion pass but also a “Frontier Bag” and a Outland Kit. According to Amazon, both items are related to Hawthorne in Destiny 2.
Who is Hawthorne?
So far, the Guardians have had nothing to do with a character named Hawthorne, and the contents of the Collector’s Edition, especially the backpack, the sunshade blanket, or the paracord rope of the Outland Kit, have been viewed with skepticism. What does this have to do with Destiny? Amazon provided more info about Hawthorne, to whom this stuff is supposed to belong:
According to this, Hawthorne was born in the last city. She left the city as a teenager to live a life in freedom in the wilderness. We quote:

Apparently, Hawthorne is a true survival artist who is not a Guardian herself. Because she survived “without the protection of the Guardians.” And that could become extremely important in Destiny 2.
Will Hawthorne play a crucial role in Destiny 2?
As officially revealed yesterday, on April 28, Destiny 2 will be a world without Light! This means that the Cabal somehow managed to strip the Guardians of their powers. After all, they draw all their strength from the Light of the Traveler. This means: In Destiny 2, there is a complete new beginning. We need to find new ways to combat the darkness and regain our power. It looks really bleak for the Guardians.
This could be the hour of Hawthorne: She knows how to survive without Light powers, which could make her an extremely important character. However, we are deep in the realm of speculation here. In what form and whether we will even encounter Hawthorne is still unknown. There is also speculation that Hawthorne might be the strange Exo who once handed the Guardians the Stranger’s Rifle. After all, they are both women and neither was forged in the Light. The future will show.
Interesting: The gameplay reveal of Destiny 2 takes place in the “Jet Center Los Angeles” in Hawthorne, California. Is this just coincidence? Hawthorne will likely be extremely significant for Destiny 2.
