Destiny 2 is losing more and more of its player base. According to the latest statistics, the loot shooter has reached its worst low ever. We show you what this is all about and why it’s only the tip of the iceberg.
What is happening with Destiny 2? Unfortunately, not much. The advertised charity event for the Fallen turned out to be a flop, as players completed it in less than 25 hours. Additionally, cheeky hackers are causing trouble in the PvP on weekends, stealing the last nerve of honest guardians.
Last but not least, there are the endlessly repetitive 6-player activities and events every season that bring no innovations and just pull guardians to the cash register again. Essentially, there is a huge accumulation of discontent, dissatisfaction, and especially disappointment. Many guardians share their suggestions for improvement and concerns with the developers via Twitter and reddit, but these are ignored.
For this reason, Destiny 2 is now drawing its consequences, as the loot shooter has reached its lowest player count on Steam. In the past 30 days, Steam Charts reports an average player count of 39,294.4 players (as of November 29, 2022) and the trend continues to decline.
Aztecross, a well-known YouTuber for Destiny 2, has now compiled a video about the dire situation of the loot shooter. In it, he states that the player numbers are not decreasing because this is the end of the season, but because the fans have had enough.
Bungie is to blame for the downfall of Destiny, not Activision
What are the problems? In the video by Aztecross, the YouTuber primarily addresses the current situation in Destiny 2. Lack of innovations, poor decisions in development, bad balancing, and missing content in PvP and PvE.
Basically, the YouTuber does not understand what Bungie is doing. The AAA studio signed a multi-billion dollar deal with Sony, and many guardians believed this was the moment when the development team would have more resources available, but that was not the case.
We are embedding Aztecross’s video here again in case you want to watch it:
The season model is still the same, and now Bungie wants to charge guardians again for some cosmetic items with event passes. The YouTuber thinks back to the time with the DLC “Forsaken” and the separation from Activision.
A huge discussion has arisen, as Activision apparently seems to be the bad guy. Bungie had to struggle with underground working conditions while Activision wanted to split the loot shooter into several parts. Many guardians wanted at that time the separation of the developer teams, as many feared that Activision would be the downfall of Destiny 2.
Now, almost three years after the separation, it is not Activision that is the problem, but Bungie itself. Aztecross believes that Bungie will bury the title if they continue like this.
What will happen with Destiny 2? Unfortunately, no one knows for sure. However, one thing is certain – the player base is getting smaller, and they are slowly getting fed up. So it’s just a matter of time how long Bungie can still keep its boat afloat before it sinks.
If nothing changes in the coming months, the loot shooter will meet its end before the story between light and darkness concludes.
What do you think about the current situation with Destiny 2? Are you following the downfall, or do you hope Bungie will still turn things around and save the loot shooter? Let us know in the comments!
Bungie is also bringing back old gear from Destiny 1, do you remember them?
