Every Destiny 2 player knows the problem: You feel like having a round of Crucible or a raid with the clan, and suddenly the servers go haywire. Whether it’s Weasel, Coconut or Beaver – these error codes are haunting you again. Now the loot shooter is once again struggling with severe server issues, and according to Bungie, these are not their server’s fault.
What is the problem? For several days now, many players have been suffering from massive connection problems in Destiny 2. The connection is so bad that they either have to fight against teleporting enemies or are completely kicked out of the game. If you want to log in again, you will be put in a queue.
This is not only annoying for players, but also for YouTubers and streamers, who just want to enjoy a round. According to Bungie, the problem is not with their own servers, which are already known in the community, but with nasty people who are launching DDoS attacks on Bungie.
Bungie suspects DDoS attacks
What has Bungie revealed? After the developers fought against the broken weapons in Destiny 2 and disabled them, they encountered the problem of the servers.
Bungie conducted investigations and found that the issues of instability are not an internal problem, but rather an external adversary is responsible for it. They issued an official statement about it on X (formerly Twitter):
In recent days, we have noticed an increase in error codes and disconnections. The team has confirmed that these error codes are not related to the planned fixes for the current crafting problem and are instead due to DDoS attacks. Although we generally do not confirm this type of attack and do not plan to do so in the future for reasons of general game security, we believe it is right for our players to communicate the additional pressure on our systems given the recent circumstances. What are DDoS attacks? DDoS attacks are a form of cybercrime. This method unleashes many requests on targeted servers, which then collapse under the enormous pressure. This leads to crashes that players have to deal with.
Is the problem still present? According to Paul Tassi from the news site ‘Forbes’, the problem with the DDoS attackers might be resolved. Thanks to the Steam charts, the graph shows that the servers are now slowly stabilizing and there are few to no more problems occurring.
However, it is still not confirmed whether the problem has completely disappeared. It could just be the calm before the storm. Bungie is still investigating the issue, and it remains to be seen if a culprit can be found. Until then, stay calm.
