In Destiny 2, the yet unnamed Season 13 is set to start on February 9th. However, Bungie has already revealed a lot about weapons, exotics, and strikes. MeinMMO summarizes all the information and also tells you what else is coming for year 4.
Currently, the Season of the Hunt, Season 12, is running in Destiny 2. Since the Hunt on the High Celebrant went live and we tricked Spider, the season has almost spent all its resources. Guardians are asking: what’s next?
Usually, Bungie keeps specific information about the next season under wraps. Last year, it was common for concrete information to be released only a few days before the start of the next chapter. But we already know of many contents for Season 13 and even beyond.
When does Season 13 start in Destiny 2? An official start date is still missing. But we strongly assume that Season 13 will kick off on February 9, 2021.
- Indeed, that date marks the end of the current season pass—usually one season flows seamlessly into the next.
- February 9 is a Tuesday, the typical reset day, and it is traditional for new content to arrive on Tuesdays.
- Thus, the release date seems to be just a formality.
- Bungie has also not released the name yet. Although data miners claim to have found out more (Ginsor via Twitter), but we will not go into that in this article.
Let’s take a look at the confirmed contents.
Activities in the Cosmodrome coming in Season 13
These strikes are coming: With Beyond Light, the Cosmodrome on Earth made its return. However, the location is currently significantly smaller than in Destiny 1 – this is set to change in Season 13.
2 strikes will expand the Cosmodrome:
- “Fallen S.A.B.E.R.” sends the Guardians into an underground laboratory against a massive Shank
- “The Devil’s Cave” is the hideout of a Fallen Servitor
The two strikes are familiar to veterans from Destiny 1. We assume that the missions will be slightly revised – just like the “Will of Crota” strike in Beyond Light is now called “Fallen from Grace,” and instead of facing the Screaming Omnigul, we will be up against another witch (Navôta).
It is also quite likely that the Cosmodrome will be generally expanded. Until now, Guardians had little reason to visit the location—certainly because the focus is on the brand new DLC location Europa. The “Infested Lands” from Rise of Iron are, on the other hand, highly unlikely to return.
Loot: 6 new weapons, 3 classics and 3 exotics are already confirmed
Destiny 2 currently suffers from a lack of loot. To address this and tackle the weapons retirement, these toys have been confirmed for Season 13:
- 6 new legendary weapons are set to make core activities more attractive. Strikes, Gambit, and the Crucible will each receive 2 previously unknown weapons. Therefore, the 3 current weapons, Xenoclast VI (strike shotgun), Stars in the Shadow (PvP pulse rifle), and Fan Favorite (Gambit grenade launcher) will be expanded.
- 3 newly designed legendary weapons will join the loot pool of the Nightfall: the Palindrome (hand cannon), the Swarm (LMG), and Shadow Price (auto rifle). These guns were popular in Destiny 1 and will receive new perks and stats.
- For the really hardcore Guardians, there’s a master version of the 3 guns, but these will only come from the Nightfall: Trial by Fire on the leaderboard.
- 3 new exotic armors are coming to the game with Season 13. Nothing is known about abilities or names. We only know that you will loot these from the legendary Lost Sectors. This challenging activity from Beyond Light is well received by Guardians and forces players to engage with their builds.
- Bungie also announced that you will be able to buy more weapons from past seasons at the exotic kiosk. This includes in Season 13 the PvP tyrant Felwinter’s Lie and the two exotics Whisper of the Worm and Perfected Outbreak.
Joe Blackburn also announced that more will finally be done for PvP fairness: Protection against DDoS attacks is announced for Season 13.

What about the story of the new season and what’s coming next?
For months, we have known that we will confront the Witch Queen Savathûn at the end of year 4. The major fall expansion of 2021 appropriately carries the name “Witch Queen”.
The story is already being developed, as in Season 12, the witch Xivu Arath obstructs us—the sister of Savathûn and also the sister of Oryx himself.
This is likely: During the last month of Season 12, Bungie will not pull off an epic battle against Xivu Arath. With the victory over the High Celebrant, we have defeated her champion—the fight against the Hive Goddess herself will likely take place in Season 13.
Thus, Bungie is adopting a story arc akin to a TV series.
- At the end of Season 11, Nokris, the son of Oryx, posed as the puppet of Savathûn – the great puppeteer in the background is now known.
- Before the showdown occurs, protagonists will have to deal with a host of henchmen while revealing more of the overlord’s plans.
- The course is clear, and everything has a common tone (finally a common thread in the Destiny story). Unlike the seasons of year 3, which were more separate adventures that only loosely connected.
- It is also speculated that the Cabal will either play a significant role at the end of Season 12 or in Season 13. Players are still waiting for this scene from the trailer:

This is already confirmed: Here’s a brief overview of the information we have about future content for 2021 in Destiny 2:
- Proper transmog is planned for Season 14
- The return of the “Glass Chamber” raid has been confirmed
- Bungie has also commented on the iconic weapons from the endgame activity: Destiny 2 is finally bringing back the coolest weapons from part 1
- Crossplay between all platforms is coming in 2021 and has high priority with Bungie
- Legendary armors are slated for gameplay innovations – how they will be, has not been revealed yet. According to Blackburn, armors are currently too limited by mods.
Keep in mind that we do not yet know anything about seasonal weapon exotics, activities from the season pass, or secrets that are likely to also be present in Season 13.
