In Destiny 2 , developer Bungie has encountered a silly issue. A new item for the “Binge” event negatively affects PvP. Bungie admits to making a mistake here, but the problem isn’t easy to fix.
This is the problem: The Spring event “Binge” started on Tuesday. A new feature of the event is an elixir, the binge essence. This grants players a buff. As a result, Guardians can choose to act faster:
- throw grenades
- use their melee abilities
- activate their class ability
Many players find this effect in PvP simply too strong. They are annoyed by how the Spring event impacts the PvP mode of Destiny 2.
Especially the grenade spam bothers regular players. One user mentions that it feels like playing dodgeball, having to dodge numerous balls.
The Guardians demand that Bungie should disable the elixir in the competitive Crucible, so that shooter skills are needed in Destiny 2’s Crucible instead of spamming skills or grenades.

He states that the intention was to inject new life into every activity of Destiny 2 with this change by altering the sandbox meta for a certain period of time.
It is now clear: Bungie has gone overboard. Instead of bringing joy, the Crucible experience has become more frustrating.
However, there is no way to disable the essence server-side. They are continuing to look into whether the problem can be resolved.
However, the experiment must last until the end of the Spring event before they can change the meta with a client-side patch, according to Cozmo.
They have learned a lot from the past few days and will ensure a better experience next time when altering the rules for a limited time.
Players are likely left with no choice but to live with the altered PvP for the next few weeks or take a break during this time.
How long does this still last? The event is supposed to run until May 7th. During this time, PvP is significantly different than usual.
Players find the duration here a bit long. A few days of grenade madness would have probably been okay, but three weeks is rather lengthy.
