Destiny 2 has been experiencing a very long server downtime for reasons yet unexplained. Bungie had to pull the plug on their servers, and now many Guardians are wondering when they can finally get back to playing. We will tell you when you can.
When can I play again? While the servers of Destiny 2 have been down since yesterday’s escapade with the missing triumphs and catalysts, many Guardians are asking when things will finally continue.
After the bug was fixed, Bungie informed its players in the weekly TWaB about what happened.
So Bungie explained: “We have discovered that the issue was caused by some currently unfinishable EDZ and Nessus triumphs from Forsaken being moved into the archived triumphs area. To make this change, we used a tool that can move player status from one place to another in the player’s account. This tool is very powerful but requires careful and precise handling. Due to a configuration error, we inadvertently re-ran an older migration process that was used for the Beyond Light version. The result was that we copied older data from before Beyond Light into the current configuration, which rolled back certain aspects of player progress since then. After we determined that the problem was causing a loss of player data, we took the game offline and reset the player database.”
Update 4:30 PM: Bungie has provided the update along with the rollback in the meantime. Hotfix 6.3.0.6 is the hotfix to address Hotfix 6.3.0.5. You can download a patch on the loading screen that is 56.61 MB for console and 5.0 MB for PC. Afterward, you should be able to log back into Destiny 2 as usual.
Update 3:10 PM: There is still no statement from Bungie itself. The servers are still unreachable, and the error message “cat” keeps appearing when attempting to log in.
Update 1:30 PM – The servers still do not work, and the error message “cat” appears when trying to log in. Bungie has also reported nothing about a delay in the downtime. It seems, therefore, that the restart of Destiny 2 will be delayed again.

The developers have been working and testing on a fix since the issue was found, thus estimating that the rollback and the associated servers will go back online between 12 PM and 1 PM German time on January 25. (via twitter.com)
However, this should be taken with caution, as the developers could take the servers offline again at any time if further issues arise.
The problem is more complex in Destiny 2 than anticipated
What happened? As reported on the evening of the incident, the released hotfix 6.3.0.5 led to unexpected and severe problems. Many earned triumphs, seals, and catalysts disappeared from the Guardians’ collections as if from nowhere. Many could be collected again, but many remained grayed out.
This fact forced the developers to surprisingly take the servers offline again indefinitely and to investigate the problem with urgency.
While many Guardians were hoping for the servers to come back online soon, Bungie was searching in vain for a bug fix.
To get things moving again, the team decided to prepare a rollback and overwrite the current save state with that from January 24 at 5:20 PM. This way, all items and triumphs received at that time can be salvaged.
