In Destiny 2, Titans now have the best legendary sword. Thanks to a mod, the damage is doubled. However, this newfound power may not be intentional – so hurry up if you want to enjoy it while it lasts.
This is the “new” sword in question: Season 14 brought back the 3 legendary swords: “Crown Splitter” (Titan), “Quickfang” (Hunter), and “Eternity’s Edge” (Warlock) to Destiny 2. Each Guardian class can use one of them. And Titans have struck gold with Crown Splitter.

Why is Crown Splitter so strong now?
This is the reason: Crown Splitter is inherently a high damage weapon. However, thanks to the mod “Energy Accelerator,” that damage skyrockets. The power of your heavy attack is simply doubled.
- Crown Splitter is the only legendary sword that hits slowly but hits hard.
- As a heavy attack, Titans perform a jump where they slam the blade down to the ground.
- This slam causes destruction in a specific area and counts as a Void explosion.
- However, the doubled damage only applies to the heavy attack, not the light swing.
The already high damage from “Energy Accelerator” can be further increased through perks and additional mods, catapulting Crown Splitter far beyond its weight class. Currently, neither the Complaining Sword nor Deathbringer can keep up with the buffed burst damage of the heavy attack, according to experts.
Here’s how to maximize damage: Equip the mod “Energy Accelerator” in your class item. Then, as with all sword builds, you’ll want to use “Lucent Blade” to increase your damage by 35%. We explained why the Light Charge mod is so strong here on MeinMMO.
Always remember to execute the heavy attack with full sword energy. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on a lot of damage. Crown Splitter itself also has additional perks that further increase damage. Each of the 4 perks found in Slot 2 increases damage:
- Vorpal Weapon passively increases damage against bosses and champions by 15%.
- Surrounded gives you an automatic 25% extra damage when 3 enemies are nearby.
- Whirlwind Blade gradually increases damage up to 30% after light hits.
- Counterattack gives you a whopping 50% more damage immediately after blocking. The Titan exotic Handheld is the best friend of this perk.
Additionally, you can debuff the enemy to further increase damage. Team members can easily do this with a grenade launcher in conjunction with the mod “Breach and Clear“. Or you can use the perk “Lightning Counter” from Crown Splitter itself.

That’s why you should hurry
Is this intended? The doubled damage surely can’t be what Bungie intended. In the description of the mod, it only mentions that the perks “Dragonfly”, “Chain Reaction”, and “Glower Worms” as on the new Fatebringer deal more damage with their explosions.
The mod “Energy Accelerator” is clearly broken. Bungie might patch this unintended extra damage soon.
- On June 3rd, Update 3.2.0.3 will arrive – the patch will bring major Stasis nerfs, and it likely won’t contain adjustments for Energy Accelerator.
- At the latest by the end of the season (August 2021), the mod will disappear on its own.
So yes: Crown Splitter is currently very powerful. However, only Titans benefit from this, and only thanks to a broken mod. So you should take advantage of the absurdly high damage now and have fun.

How to obtain Crown Splitter: The legendary sword is a world drop in the Season of the Splicer. This means you can get Crown Splitter from legendary engrams and rank-ups with a bit of luck – as long as you’re playing as a Titan. Every weekly reset (Tuesdays at 7:00 PM), Banshee-44 brings new weapons with daily rotating rolls available for purchase. It’s worth taking a look.
Additionally, you can focus your Umbral Engrams in the H.E.L.M. so that you only receive swords as rewards. To do this, you need to find the “Blade Prism Lens.” You automatically get this when you achieve enough kills with swords in Season 14 and then redeem the corresponding triumph.
Here’s how to get Energy Accelerator: It is a mod from the seasonal artifact of Season 14. You simply level up your artifact through any XP and eventually unlock access to Energy Accelerator. The mod is located in the 5th and last row in the bottom right corner.
