In Destiny 2 you can enhance your weapons with “Adept Big Ones Spec.” The new mod is really powerful, but it currently has a major problem. We will take a closer look at this new toy.
This mod is about: Among the Guardians, a new mod from Season 13 is currently highly regarded: Adept Big Ones Spec. This mod is hard to obtain, and there are some rumors about its properties.
Adept Big Ones Spec has been obtainable since March 16 only in the Grandmaster Nightfall difficulty of the Nightfall. So you really have to sweat to enhance your weapons with it. You can also farm this PvE endgame activity for other strong Adept mods.
MeinMMO explains what the new modification actually brings and whether the effort is worth it.
How powerful your weapon will be with this: What does Adept Big Ones Spec bring? You can think of the mod as a combination of major spec and boss spec. These are the effects you have with the new mod:
- Powerful enemies take 7.5-8% additional damage, so majors
- 7.5-8% additional damage against bosses, so ultras
- 7.5-8% additional damage against enemy vehicles
The damage itself is not higher than that of the known mods – they also give you the same damage boost.
Armor can be equipped with up to 5 mods simultaneously – this time also exotics. Each mod costs energy, and Guardians have a maximum of 10 energy available for mods. Therefore, it is important to choose whether to increase stamina, find more ammunition, push your stats, or pour all the energy into just one aspect.
Adept Big Ones Spec should be the boss killer – how good is it really?
This is why pros rave about it: The advantage of Adept Big Ones Spec is that you don’t have to constantly switch the mod and are thus prepared for every fight. Because in Destiny 2, not everything that looks like a boss is also a boss. If you encounter the “wrong” boss, the mod slot may be wasted, and you won’t unleash your full damage potential.
- Often, the bosses of an activity are actually majors, so you wouldn’t deal more damage with the regular boss spec.
- Even the strong Taniks in the Deep Stone Crypt raid is said to actually only be a major in the game code.
- A rough rule of thumb for identification: If the health bar is orange or yellow-orange, it is a major; if the bar is completely bright yellow, then you have a real boss, an ultra, in front of you.
However, with Adept Big Ones Spec, this cannot happen. Every dangerous enemy – from slightly stronger opponents in Gambit, through enemies protecting the delicious loot in Lost Sectors, to towering raid bosses – all take more damage with this.
There’s a big “but” for Adept Big Ones Spec in Destiny 2
Looking around, you’ll find videos titled “Every PvE player needs this new mod” (via Youtube) and the new mod is praised to the skies there. And rightly so, after all, any weapon equipped with it becomes a strong choice against all powerful enemies.
This is the problem: Adept mods (like Adept Big Ones Spec) can only be installed on adept weapons. Currently, there are only very few of these prestigious guns in Destiny 2. Guardians can only obtain these rare guns with luck in the Nightfall on Grandmaster or in the Trials of Osiris if they pull off a flawless run. The Trials are currently suspended in Season 13.
But even if you’ve struggled to get an adept weapon, there’s a problem: The available adept weapons are currently not really meta – at least against the aforementioned bosses. For boss damage, only the machine gun The Swarm, the sniper rifle Eye of Sol, or the rocket launcher The Answer of Tomorrow are viable. However, most players are likely to rely on exotics like The Complaint, Anarchy, or other legendary guns like raid weapons to deal serious damage to powerful enemies.
The adept weapons are not bad – on the contrary. They receive +10 to one stat and +3 to all others as a masterwork, have access to powerful adept mods, and simply look cooler. However, currently, there are not really strong adept weapons that fully utilize their capabilities – especially against boss enemies.
If more weapons like this come into play in future seasons or if something changes in the sandbox, then Adept Big Ones Spec may really live up to its reputation as the supposedly best PvE mod.
What do you think of Adept mods and adept weapons? Are these rare items an incentive to struggle through the hardest activities, or would you pass on such prestige items? Do you think you should get the mod now to be prepared for the future? Let us know in the comments.
