In Destiny 2 Guardians can now hunt new Exotic Masterwork Catalysts, which can enhance 4 weapon exotics. We have summarized all the important information for you.
What are Masterwork Catalysts? In Destiny 2, players can upgrade numerous exotic weapons to a Masterwork. To do this, you need corresponding Masterwork Catalysts, which must first be found and leveled up.
A Masterwork version essentially represents an upgrade of the respective weapon. This will improve certain stats or unlock additional perks.

Which Exotic Catalysts are new? With update 2.2.1, a total of 4 new Masterwork Catalysts were introduced.
These include catalysts for the following exotic weapons:
- Rat King – Hand Cannon
- The Prospector – Grenade Launcher
- Hard Light – Auto Rifle
- SUROS Regime – Auto Rifle
The 4 New Masterwork Catalysts – What You Need to Know
Below you will find the most important information about the locations and properties of the new catalysts.
According to early reports, the new additions are currently dropping with a fairly high probability. It shouldn’t take too long to obtain them. Whether the drop rate is generally high or only generous during the Arc week is currently unknown.
Rat King
- Drops in: Nightfalls and Strikes
- Upgrade Requirement: 1,000 enemy kills by a fireteam member with the Rat King
- Upgrade Effect: Aim Assist +20, Recoil Direction +20, Bonus Perk “Infestation” – Activating the invisibility from the “Pest” perk restores health
The Prospector
- Drops in: Nightfalls and Strikes
- Upgrade Requirement: 500 enemy kills
- Upgrade Effect: Blast Radius +40 (more than doubles), Bonus Perk “Deeper Pockets” – increased ammo reserves
Hard Light
- Drops in: Nightfalls and Strikes
- Upgrade Requirement: 1,000 enemy kills
- Upgrade Effect: Stability +25. This makes the weapon achieve maximum stability
SUROS Regime
- Drops in: Crucible
- Upgrade Requirement: 300 kills in Crucible
- Upgrade Effect: Recoil Direction +50 (resulting in almost purely vertical recoil), Bonus Perk “SUROS Ascendance” – increases the chance for health regeneration on kills
