In Destiny 2 , Guardians have managed to blast the raid boss Argos away while completely ignoring much of the actual combat mechanics. But not due to a glitch or bugs, but quite normally. Find out how here.
This boss is: Argos is a massive Vex Hydra and the final boss of the Worlds’ Eater section from the Leviathan raid. The gigantic machine waits deep inside the spaceship of Cabal Emperor Calus.
This is how the fight actually goes: The fight against this boss is, as is usual in raids, tied to a complex mechanic that requires a lot of coordination and communication from the Guardians.
Initially, Argos is invulnerable because he is surrounded by a shield.
This must be broken with a series of charged Vex skulls, while taking various elements into account and keeping waves of enemies at bay – and all of this before mines explode if things do not happen quickly enough.
And only then do you actually enter the damage phase, which you may have to go through multiple times.
How the fight works in detail, you can find out in our raid guide: Worlds’ Eater Guide – This is how the Argos raid section works
What exactly did the Guardians achieve? A raid team around the professional player Gladd has now managed to simply blow away the massive Vex machine – through its normally impenetrable shield! Essentially, almost the entire combat mechanism was nullified or simply ignored.
Here you can watch this fight in the video:
How did the team do it? How could the Guardians simply shoot through Argos’ shield? They managed this with the help of the new exotic hand cannon Eriana’s Vow.
With it, they not only demonstrated how powerful the weapon can be, but also, how useful some of the new artifact mods can be.
Because Eriana’s Vow fires shield-breaking ammunition (Anti-Barrier rounds), which can penetrate shields of, for example, Champions, Acolytes, or Hobgoblins – and quite obviously also that of raid boss Argos. This was the core of the “strategy” against the Vex monstrosity.
This feature can also be applied to other hand cannons, auto rifles, and submachine guns in Season 8 with the appropriate seasonal artifact mod.
So instead of playing through the first phase of the Argos encounter normally and breaking the boss’s shield, the Guardians started the encounter with fewer skulls, so the time-critical mine mechanism was not triggered. This way, they could already deal decent damage to the boss before the actual damage phase (without a shield).
After they had also completed the regular damage phase, the shield rebuilt again and they kept shooting through it just as they did at the beginning.
In doing so, they used weapons of Light for higher damage output, Well of Radiance from the Warlock to boost survivability, and finishers with the special ammo mod. This generated enough ammunition for them to continuously use their hand cannons against the boss.
More spectacular feats from the raid: But this is not the only noteworthy performance that has been showcased in the raids lately.
- The final boss of the new Shadowkeep raid was defeated by just three (and now only two) Guardians
- Moreover, the raid boss of the Shadowkeep raid was simply shoved into the abyss – in a phase where it actually cannot be defeated yet
- They also managed to take down the new raid boss completely without using weapons
