The guardians in Destiny 2 had many good weapons taken away with the sunsetting. But Bungie is gradually reversing this major mistake and bringing back your beloved treasures. Thus, in Season 21, the former ritual weapon “Randy’s throwing knife” returned, and better than ever.
Which weapon is back in Season 21? “Randy’s throwing knife” is probably one of the most famous 260 scout rifles in the history of Destiny 2.
- The legend of “Randy’s throwing knife” began in Season 8 when Bungie presented this powerful ritual weapon to the guardians. However, anyone wanting to obtain the unique scout rifle back then had to complete a lengthy quest called “Enlightenment through Fire” first.
Once this was accomplished, one proudly held their new “Randy’s throwing knife” in their hands, which not only had impressive accuracy but also fired fully automatically due to its rapid-fire casing and played really well with “Quickdraw” and “Kill Clip.”
Bungie, however, nullified these efforts in Season 12 when the developer sacrificed the weapon to the hated “sunsetting,” the artificially introduced weapon retirement.
But now, in Season 21, “Randy’s throwing knife” has made a comeback with a bang and is free again. And it is better than ever, igniting the hunt for the perfect roll of the weapon among the guardians once more.

What makes Randy’s throwing knife so good in 2023? Although some players are skeptical about whether this weapon can reclaim its former glory, most guardians are excited about the overhaul in 2023.
Especially because “Randy’s throwing knife” still offers the most popular perk combo of the past in Season 21. However, it has also been bestowed with a total of 12 new perk options.
- Players can either connect to the good old times with “Quickdraw” and “Kill Clip.”
- Or they prioritize the currently strong options of the newer perks, such as “Kinetic Tremor,” a better kinetic flinch, or “Cascade Point,” a type of super-desperado.
In addition, there are the recent improvements to the “Zen Moment” perk and the reduction of flinch in PvP.
But no matter what one chooses: Almost every perk combo makes you say, “Man, Uncle Randy, where have you been all these years?”
Even when shot by an enemy, this scout rifle ensures that you still hit. And since one can also achieve 100 stability, it shoots like a laser scout that you wouldn’t want to miss in 2023.
This is what God rolls look like in PvE and PvP
These are the God Rolls: If you want the best perk combo for the fast scout rifle, be sure to optimally balance the weapon’s stability and recoil deficiencies. We have put together a total of two God rolls and a “Laser Randy” that guardians can use in PvE and PvP.
The following perks are good in PvP:
- Barrel: “Chambered Compensator”
- Magazine: “Ricochet Rounds” or “High Caliber Rounds”
- First perk: “Quickdraw” or “Zen Moment”
- Second perk: “Kill Clip” or “Cascade Point”
- Masterwork: “Stability” or “Range”
- Mod: “Backup Mag”
When it comes to the perk “Cascade Point,” note that this advantage increases the weapon’s fire rate but only if you have achieved a kill with another weapon beforehand. So this perk is only worthwhile if you regularly achieve kills with your second weapon to then activate “Cascade Point.”
And for the masterwork, we have chosen “Stability.” However, if you are accurate and do not need additional stability, you can also opt for Range instead.
Choose these perks for PvE:
- Barrel: “Hammerforged Rifling”
- Magazine: “Armor-Piercing Rounds”
- First perk: “Quickdraw”
- Second perk: “Kinetic Tremor” or “Focused Fury”
- Masterwork: “Stability” or “Range”
- Mod: “Backup Mag”
However, we recommend the perk “Kinetic Tremor” here as it has proven to be very efficient in PvE. It gives you a bit more AoE damage or damage in an area of effect of 5 meters.
- When you deal sustained kinetic damage to a target, a shockwave is triggered that damages all nearby targets.
This shockwave, which can be triggered with just 6 shots, is considered a better kinetic “flinch” in Destiny 2.
To become the laser scout, “Randy’s throwing knife” has these perks:
- Barrel: “Smallbore”
- Magazine: “Ricochet Rounds”
- First perk: “Perpetual Motion” x2
- Second perk: “Addition” x4
- Masterwork: “Range”
- Mod: “Counterbalance Stock”
How to get “Randy’s throwing knife” in 2023? The times of lengthy quests are definitely over for Randy’s throwing knife. In 2023, the scout rifle drops randomly in PvP playlists or during the Iron Banner. So you just need to play and hope for some luck.
Additionally, you can also obtain the weapon from Crucible Engrams. However, here too, the drop is purely random.
The more resets you have in the PvP playlist, the more perk options a drop of “Randy’s throwing knife” will bring you.
A small tip for better yield: If you want to farm the weapon, you should stash all engrams on your way to the third reset in the PvP playlist. This way, you have a higher chance of getting a weapon with three perks.
