In Destiny 2, players can farm God Rolls of certain weapons again since the “Black Armory” DLC. However, this proves to be a time-consuming affair. The hunt for the perfect weapons takes hours.
These are God Rolls: The weapons in Destiny are always the same – but they can drop with different “Perks”, changing the weapon’s abilities and the way you play it slightly.
A weapon referred to as a “God-Roll” already in Destiny 1 features an optimal perk configuration. Especially important are “synergy effects”.
For example, the new pulse rifle “Hochofen” is considered a God Roll if it has both: Feeding Frenzy (faster reload after kills) and Rampage (more damage after kills).
The “exact” God Roll is discussed by experts and is sometimes a matter of faith.
By the way: Top weapons in Destiny 2 like Halsbruch already have such “God Rolls” by default and are therefore sought after.
This is how God Rolls used to be: In Destiny 1, many weapons had such “God Rolls”. Back then, some God Roll weapons could be specifically farmed, for example in Iron Banner or during certain Strikes.
Players spent hours farming the perfect “Fakebringer”, a special Imago Loop, or chasing after other weapons. They brought the crucial points of effectiveness to stand out from others. At least the hunters of the perfect weapon believed that.
This is how it was all the time in Destiny 2: In Destiny 2, Bungie eliminated random perk combinations for a long time. Only with “Forsaken” did the random rolls return.
But even then, there was rarely a hunt for the God Roll, as weapons no longer dropped as predictably as before. Instead, players hunted for “Curated Rolls” that dropped from certain activities: these are special versions of weapons that come with a fixed perk combination selected by Bungie, and at Masterwork level 10.
This is how God Rolls are back: With the “Black Armory” DLC, the forges came to Destiny 2, bringing back God Rolls. Here, individual weapon types can be specifically farmed.
You can get a weapon form from Ada-1 and receive the weapon with a random roll by completing a forge multiple times.
On websites like light.gg, players examine carefully which “roll” their weapons can have and try to hunt it down specifically.
140 Hours for a Real Chance at the God Roll
This is how elaborate the hunt is: On reddit, a user writes that he was on the hunt for the God Roll of “Kindled Orchid”, a legendary hand cannon.
He had set his mind that the weapon needed the perk combination Rampage/Kill Clip/Drop Mag. So a God Roll with even 3 hits on the perks.
The chance of getting just the first 2 perks stands at 1:42. Thus, you would need 42 runs to statistically “likely” get a weapon with these perks.
You need three runs through the forge to complete a weapon form with all side steps and in such a way that you can pick up the next form right away. It takes about 25 minutes with trips back to the tower, explains the diligent Guardian.
That would be 1050 minutes, or 17.5 hours, to have a higher chance of getting the weapon with 2 perks than to not get it in the form.

But if you want to hit all 3 perks, you’re already looking at a chance of 1:336. So 8400 minutes or about 140 hours.
The user on reddit got lucky. Already after his 83rd attempt, he got the hand cannon of his dreams. According to his calculations, that’s about 34.5 hours and thus almost the entire reset.
This is how Guardians react: They expressly praise the hunter of the perfect weapon for his ambition.
