In Destiny 2 strange things are happening: Masterful alien hunters suddenly become hobby bakers, collecting ingredients to bake a “Gjallarhorn” for the grumpy bald man Zavala.
What is going on in Destiny 2? Christmas has broken out. In the German Destiny 2, the event bears the ridiculously uncool name “The Dawning.”
Christmas has been celebrated in Destiny since its release, but this year Destiny surprises its players with a real Christmas event.
A brief history of Christmas in Destiny
This is how Christmas used to be in Destiny: Since its launch, Destiny has come up with quite a few ideas for Christmas:
- In 2014, there was no event, but gifts were promised to arrive in the new year. However, there was actually a hacker attack that made it impossible for many to play over Christmas 2014.
- In 2015, Destiny then released an exclusive emblem and some fluff on January 7 of the next year.
- 2016 was then the first real event. “The Dawning” brought back the Sparrow League and unlocked a “certificates” book where Guardians could go hunting for achievements.
- 2017 was rather lame: Here, everything was still focused on commerce – although there were cool armor sets, they were linked to the hated Eververse. Hockey and snowball fights were added.
Guardians in the Christmas bakery
This year it is like this: 2018 is all about baking. But it is baking with shooting.
Players have to bake specific cookies for their favorite characters in the Tower or on the planets:
- Zavala wants Gjallarhorn cookies
- Failsafe likes Everfrost cake
- Shaxx only eats vanilla swords
- And Ikora is into Traveler quark balls
Guardians simply acquire the ingredients for all these delicacies when they go about their normal activities. Because aliens suddenly not only drop loot but also provide milk (Vex), butter (Cabal) or delicious ether sticks (Hive).
There are then numerous baking recipes for turning all this stuff into something edible. The ingredients then go into the oven.
“Incredible, but true – We are baking”
This is how the event is going: Here on MeinMMO, the opinion of the community is mostly positive.
- Nexxos Zero discovers his inner baker: “Yesterday I baked everything and delivered it to the respective NPCs. Now I’m just waiting for Xur on Friday to give him his treat.”
- KingK is surprised by himself: “We are baking! Oh man, I turned on the oven yesterday. Incredible but true.”
- Chris Brunner analyzes: “So far I find it quite nicely done. It’s not too tedious and it simply complements the current gameplay.”
- Strahlemann30 even says: “I think this is the first event that can truly be called an event in Destiny 2.
- But there is also a Grinch among MeinMMO readers. Caribo says: “This is the most unnecessary thing I have ever experienced in 5 years of Destiny. It’s even more unnecessary than the raisin and celery and they had no function.”
