Currently, a community event is taking place in Destiny 2, where significant donations are being made. Why players need a total of 10 years for this and don’t even know exactly what they are doing it for, you can read here.
What is being donated for so long? Since February 4, the Empyrean Foundation has been running in Destiny 2. In this community event, players are helping with the reconstruction through their donations.
Currently, the event is in the final stage and requires a whopping 9.7 billion Fractaline from the Guardians. To “deposit” this enormous amount, the community needs over 10 years altogether.
This is why it takes forever: Players have flexed their math muscles and calculated that by the end of the event, 10.84 years will have been donated (via Reddit). For those who prefer to envision the time in minutes: This corresponds to about 5,703,703 minutes.
The high number is based on the way donations are made. Guardians can only spend 100 Fractaline per donation. It takes 3.5 seconds for this amount to be credited to the reconstruction. Then it’s time to smash the donation button again.
Especially for large investors and Fractaline junkies, the slow donation process becomes a real time sink. The most diligent Fractaline collector spent a total of 6 hours just handing over her resources.
However, the time for accepting loot streams or inventory management is not even counted yet. But donating does bring some positives even now: It allows for great experience points and God rolls to be farmed.
This is what Bungie says about it: Regarding the criticism of the donation process, dmg04, representing Bungie (via Twitter), stated that no quicker solution can be offered for the current event.
In the future, however, they will work on improvements for similarly designed community challenges. He proposed the following potential solutions:
- The time required for each donation could be reduced
- Another option could be to allow larger or variable donation amounts.
Many players are demanding variable donation amounts through so-called sliders not only for such events. Such a function would also be useful and contemporary in other areas, such as inventory management or shader management.
What are we actually donating for?
This return is suspected: Currently, there is no official information about the goal of the Empyrean Foundation. However, the imminent announcement of the return of the Trials is seen by many Guardians as a mere formality.
