Destiny-2 players were able to grab a free emblem for the online shooter. However, the promotion was so popular that the corresponding website crashed and the emblem is now apparently no longer available.
Which emblem was free? It was the legendary and rare emblem Echo of Sunset. This was originally only given to participants of the Madrid Games Week 2019 by Bungie.
Free emblem overwhelms Destiny site
How could you grab the emblem? Originally, the emblem was probably only intended for China. On Bungie’s Weibo page, two captchas were displayed – but with Chinese writing.
However, some Guardians from the West quickly figured it out, and guides were created. Those who could successfully get through the double captcha process received a unique IP-related code.
This had to be entered on the Destiny 2 code redemption portal. This is how players received the corresponding emblem in-game.
What is the problem? Apparently, many Guardians did not want to miss out on this free and rare emblem. It was in such high demand and the rush was so large that the captcha website was overwhelmed extremely quickly.
For some time it still worked flawlessly, but soon had to be reloaded multiple times to even see the captcha puzzles. And since today, the site has not worked at all.
Can you still get the emblem somehow? Players are now reporting that they can no longer redeem their codes. Many find it disappointing because they would have liked one too. Especially some passionate collectors are upset about it.
However, it seems that the emblem, although digital, was only available in a limited quantity. Those who were first got it first.
According to Reddit, it might be that more emblems will be released, but that is not certain. In case it happens and you want the emblem for your collection, we will show again how to get the code.
How to get the code:
On the Bungie Weibo page, essentially two puzzles had to be solved:
- The first captcha displayed a random image in the background, with colorful Chinese symbols in the foreground. Under the image, a unique sequence of Chinese characters was displayed. You should observe the order in which these characters were printed under the image and click the versions of the same characters in the correct order on the image.
- The second captcha represented a puzzle image. Using a slider, you should fill in the missing part of the image.
The website then generated a unique key for each IP address.
How should you enter the key? On the Destiny 2 code redemption portal, you should log in with your account and then enter the key in the field. This would have allowed you to receive the Echo of Sunset emblem.
