In Destiny 2 the new expansion “Witch Queen” is near. One of the villains in the expansion will be the “Lucent Brood” spirit Immaru. He will give orders to the Lucent Brood that resemble the missions that Guardians have to complete. In early footage, the spirit sounds similarly arrogant as “Handsome Jack” from the Borderlands series and finds innovative ways to insult the Guardians as bags of flour and maggots.
This is the situation:
- Bungie is currently working on finding new ways to make the expansion “Witch Queen” appealing to the Guardians and is utilizing social media for this.
- Just as they once had the 3-meter-tall turtle princess flirt with the Guardians, Bungie has now unleashed Savathun on the Twitter channel . In the end, the Vanguard apologized on Twitter for the strange broadcasts. They couldn’t really explain how that happened.
- As a new action, Bungie is now showcasing on Instagram four voice samples from Immaru, Savathun’s ghost. Here, “audio messages” were recorded in which the ghost gives orders to its subordinates, the Lucent Brood.

What does Immaru say?
- “Alright, my little antisocial arthropods. This is the First Ghost, Immaru. These glowing bags of flour think they can set up a sweet little supply line. Tear them apart.”
- “Attention, all Lucent Brood with clear minds. Here is Immaru with your orders. A high-priority messenger is crossing our territory – keep those weapon-stuffed maggots away from her.”
- “Are you having fun meddling with my comm, you glitter bombs? Let’s see how much fun you have when my Lucent Brood skins you. Let’s dance.”
This is notable: There is an ironic break. In the world of the Lucent Brood, the ghost is “the mission giver” who gives orders to the Lucent Brood that are very similar to the tasks that Guardians also receive in Destiny 2.
Bungie has now created a character with Immaru that serves a similar function as Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2. Someone who constantly belittles the Guardians and mocks them: how vain they are, how obsessed with weapons, how they look quite silly sparkling and glowing. At the same time, Immaru also amuses himself with his own subordinates and their limited mental capacity.

What are the reactions? They are quite good on Instagram. The Guardians have a good sense of what Bungie intends with the character:
- One user asks: “Are the patrols running against us?”
- Another highlights the strange word “Wagamaggots”.
- A third says: “We are now the high-priority target.”
