In Destiny 2 the new Season 12, the Season of the Hunt, has begun with Beyond Light. This brings Guardians the special Exotic shotgun Duality (eng. Duality).
This weapon is about: The exotic shotgun Duality has been newly introduced in Beyond Light. It stands out because it combines both types of shotguns from Destiny. It can be used as a precision hunting rifle or as a spreading shotgun.

What makes Duality exotic: Duality deals Solar damage and fires with green special ammo. The magazine holds 6 rounds and it has a fire rate of 65. Particularly the range and handling surpass the competition.
The magic comes from the two unique exotic perks:
- Compression chamber: Fires a hail of pellets when firing from the hip or a single high-damage round when aiming (Slug).
- On black wings: Shotgun deathblows grant stackable precision damage and a reload speed buff. Precision hits with rounds (Slugs) extend the duration.
You have the choice: do you fire a widely spread salvo or aim and shoot a single projectile at significantly greater range? Thus, Duality directly competes with the exotic slug shotgun Chaperone. This one also fires a slug, but cannot use the normal shotgun pellets.
In PvP, you can take out an opponent from the hip at about 5 meters. The slug shot achieves a one-shot kill at about 10 meters, with precision buff even at 11.

Get the new exotic shotgun “Duality” in the Season of the Hunt
Where can you get the weapon? The new shotgun comes via the new Season Pass of the Season of the Hunt. All Guardians can claim the Exotic. Season 12 launched simultaneously with the expansion Destiny 2: Beyond Light.
How to get the Exotic:
- If you purchased Beyond Light along with Season 12 (or the Digital Deluxe Edition of Beyond Light), you can pick up a gift package at Level 1 of the Season Pass. Navigate to the Seasons tab and check the Level 1 field of the pass.
- If you do not buy Season 12, you can still unlock the weapon through the free rewards branch of the new Season Pass. However, you’ll need to reach Season Level 35 there first.
- At Rank 100, owners of the Season will receive an exclusive ornament for the weapon, that is, a skin.
What about the exotic catalyst of Duality in Beyond Light?
How to make Duality a masterwork: Once you have obtained the shotgun, you need to visit Banshee-44 in the Tower. He has the quest “Fine Line” for you. As a reward, you will receive the exotic masterwork catalyst for Duality.
As a masterwork, Duality gets +20 range and increases the magazine size to 8.
What Banshee requires from you:
- You need to calibrate the weapon – complete Crucible or Gambit matches for this. Alternatively, you can make progress in Strikes or Nightfalls. In the Nightfall, you get more points than in the normal Nightfall.
- Eliminate 50 Guardians with the Exotic.
- Defeat 100 enemies with Duality’s slug rounds.
Once you have mastered everything to the satisfaction of the gunsmith, you will receive the catalyst. However, you must level it up with 400 kills through Duality until you finally have the masterwork finished.
