A team where each of the four roles is represented is recommended. If you play the roles correctly, the armor sets provide you with significant advantages.

Don’t hold back with Supers and Heavy Ammo
The tip is: While in regular Gambit matches you usually save your super attack and heavy ammo for the Primeval, Bungie advises firing heavy weapons while collecting motes in Gambit Prime.
With each wave of enemies, the foes become more powerful, and regularly enemies with significant health appear. If you take too long to deal with these tough enemies, the opposing team will rush past you.
You should also focus on high-value targets that spawn each round. Bungie states they are an easy way to gain a handful of bonus motes.
This is how you quickly defeat the Primeval in Gambit Prime
Pro streamer Gladd brings another strategy on how to melt down the Primeval in the boss fight.
This is how it works:
- For weapons, he recommends the exotic Wardcliff Coil, which deals massive damage against the Primeval
- You should not waste all your heavy ammo right in the first Light well phase. Each round, the buff in the Light well gets stronger when you defeat the Envoys. This means, save your heavy ammo.
- Only deal a bit of damage to the boss in the first phase – so it’s not too tragic if invaders heal the boss again.
Hit the boss hard with the Wardcliff Coil in phase 2.
Comments are already discussing that this tactic will soon be used by all Guardians.

Gambit Prime is now playable in Destiny 2. We show you how this mode works and give tips to ensure you seize victory.
Where do the tips come from? In an interview with Polygon, Lars Bakken, the creative lead for Season 6, and Robbie Stevens, a senior designer at Bungie, provided tips for Gambit Prime. Additionally, you will find a tip from the streamer Gladd on how to quickly eliminate the Primeval at the end.
This is how Gambit Prime works
This is Gambit Prime: It is a new Gambit mode that was exclusively released for annual pass holders in Season 6 . The mode requires teamwork and a good strategy to win.
Two teams of four Guardians compete against each other. The first team to defeat the Primeval wins.

The biggest differences from regular Gambit:
- In Prime, there is only one round, which is longer than a regular Gambit round.
- You need to deposit 100 (instead of 75) motes to summon the Primeval. However, the Primeval is initially immune to your damage.
- Defeat the Envoys (which are Witches) to create a Light well. Stand in the well to gain a buff so you can deal damage to the Primeval. The Witches are marked with red symbols.
- Each time the portal opens, you can teleport as invaders to the enemies. If you kill opposing Guardians, it heals the Primeval. Since the Primeval phase lasts longer than in regular Gambit, many invasions are possible.
Grab Gambit Prime armor with Synths
The tip is: Choose a role in Gambit Prime and quickly put together the new armor for it. Because the armor pieces grant important bonuses in Gambit Prime.
Note: You can only unlock all perks with higher-tier Gambit Prime armor. At the very beginning, you will have to forgo some perks.
There are 4 roles, each unlocking 4 perks with the corresponding armor pieces:
- Reaper (weakens high-ranking targets, multi-kills generate special ammo, motes have a longer lifespan before disappearing, grenades recharge faster when you kill powerful enemies)
- Guardian (multi-kills generate damage buffs against Taken, the bank regenerates your health, you can mark invaders for allies, you empower allies in the Light well)
- Collector (you drop motes when you die, motes grant a shield, you receive ammo when you deposit motes, you can send huge 20-mote blockers)
- Invader (you generate ammo during the invasion, you have an improved invasion shield, you receive bonus damage on Guardian kills, you can drain motes from the enemy bank and close the bank)

This is how you unlock the perks: The more armor pieces from a set you wear, the more Gambit Prime armor perks will be active.
Each of these armor pieces grants a certain number of points. Each perk has a “point threshold” that you must exceed to unlock it. Your focus should first be on completing a full set to gain enough points and thus all perks.
This is what Synths do for the perks: If you want to combine the armor sets into a hybrid build (with exotics or other sets) and still unlock all perks, special Synths are available to you.
If you have a Guardian build and replace one Gambit Prime armor piece with an exotic, you will miss the points to activate all perks. However, if you use a Guardian Synth, you will gain +3 Guardian points for 30 minutes, allowing all Guardian perks to be activated.

This is how you get Synths: You get the Synths through daily bounties for Gambit Prime and through “daily citizen duty Prime bounties” from the Drifter. Through the latter bounties, you can also get Synths outside the new Gambit mode.
This is how you get the Gambit Prime armor with Synths: To obtain the new armor pieces, you also need Synths. So, the Synths have two different purposes in Destiny 2.
You use these in a synthesizer, which you receive from the Drifter after a short quest line, to create special motes. You deposit the Synth motes at the beginning of a reckoning round in the bank before the chasm. If you win the round, you receive a corresponding piece of equipment.

Deposit your motes wisely in Gambit Prime
The tip is: A new feature in Gambit Prime is that you can drain motes from the enemy bank. To do this, two blockers must be standing on the enemy side. Use smart strategies so that the blockers can drain motes for as long as possible.
If you send only a small blocker, it’s not very effective. It is quickly defeated. Instead, summon multiple blockers at the same time to deal maximum damage to the enemy.
This blocker combo is recommended: Try to send two small blockers (each 5 motes) and two medium blockers (each 10 motes) more or less simultaneously. The small blockers can make the other blockers immune to damage, so the enemy must first defeat the small blockers.
According to Stevens, it is always worth sending a small blocker together with a larger blocker. Small blockers alone are almost worthless.
These are the new blocker types since Season 6:
- The small blocker is a Taken Goblin. It has less health than the previous Phalanx, but can protect other blockers (5 motes)
- The medium blocker is a Taken Captain, coming with a shield and a lot of health (10 motes)
- The large blocker is a Taken Knight with more health than the Ogre before (15 motes)
- Collectors can send huge 20-mote blockers.

Play your role correctly
The tip is: Adapt your weapons to your role.
- If you play the Collector, you can choose an aggressive play style with a shotgun. The motes you collect grant a shield – and even if you die, you drop some of your motes so they can be picked up and not lost.
- Guardians should bring a weapon for close range to finish off blockers, and a weapon for long range to take out invaders.
- Invaders can take weapons that have limited ammo (like linear fusion rifles), as they generate ammo in the enemy arena.
- Reapers should take a strong special weapon they are comfortable with because they gain extra ammo through multi-kills.
