Fusion rifles in Destiny 2 have a tough time. In skilled hands, these weapons are absolutely deadly. For Bungie, this was reason enough to keep nerfing fusion rifles in Destiny 1. Shall we go to the next round now?
Fusion rifles are very strong weapons under the right conditions. This was true not only for Destiny 1 but also for Destiny 2. While the quality differences in Destiny 1 were still very large, fusion rifles in Destiny 2 are all virtually usable.
Old rule: When in doubt, Bungie nerfs the fusion rifle first
Fusion rifles need to be charged before they can fire their deadly payload. Bungie never quite knew what to do with fusion rifles, resulting in countless changes to the weapons. Therefore, some were even surprised that fusion rifles returned at all in Destiny 2.
Due to the constant balance changes to fusion rifles, a legend status has developed in the community. Bungie patches the game: How will the fusion rifles be nerfed? New content is coming? Guaranteed with worse fusion rifles. Automatic rifles are made 0.04% stronger? Fusion rifles must certainly suffer from it.
In the lead-up to Destiny 2, the community was already making jokes about it. In a fake tweet, they had Bungie’s weapon chief announce: Destiny 2 will have no balance. Only fusion rifle nerfs!
Bungie pushed the nerfs to fusion rifles so far that the weapons were still nerfed even though no one was playing with them anymore.
