Finally, there is good news for all Gambit fans. Destiny 2 has announced an overhaul for the unique PvP and PvE hybrid mode in Season 16 and has also considered the players’ most anticipated wish.
This is what makes Gambit so special: The Gambit game mode is, along with the Vanguard Strikes (PvE) and the Crucible (PvP), the third playlist activity that players in Destiny 2 can start. What is special is that Gambit represents a hybrid activity that combines PvP and PvE.
This is how Gambit is played:
- Two teams collect Darkness particles separately.
- The particles are dropped by defeated PvE enemies.
- Players can collect a maximum of 15 particles to then deposit them at the bank.
- 5, 10, or 15 particles summon Taken on the opponent’s side, which block the bank.
- Both teams can regularly receive visits from an enemy Invader.
- The Invader phase is meant to keep players from collecting.
Sometimes it can also happen that an Invader, with a bit of luck and the right weapon, takes out the entire enemy team:
Gambit urgently needs fresh wind
In recent seasons, fewer and fewer players have been playing the Gambit playlist for several reasons.
There is a lack of top weapons: There is simply nothing in Gambit that can entice players anymore. Numerous good rewards, such as legendary ritual or pinnacle weapons, are scarce. Gambit hasn’t had the most attractive loot pool in recent seasons.
Players can obtain these weapons through the Gambit playlist:
- “The Supreme Servitor,” scout rifle (kinetic + current season drop)
- Last Dollar, hand cannon (Void)
- Trinary System, fusion rifle (Solar)
- Borrowed Time, submachine gun (Solar)
- Fan Favorite, grenade launcher (Void)
Players miss the highly coveted loot carrots from the past, such as the machine gun “21% Delirium” or the shotgun “Python”. All weapons from the Drifter that were always at the top of the loadouts.
The mode currently offers little variety: When players start the playlist, they only play on a handful of maps, and these often repeat directly after each other. Furthermore, there are locations that no longer exist in the Destiny universe, such as Titan or Mars. This quickly becomes boring, so it’s no surprise that player counts in Gambit are now getting worse and worse.
The Destiny 2 player PopAd writes via reddit: “Can we please get the Gambit maps back from the content vault?” and speaks to the soul of many players.
For starters, the return of a few of the old maps, such as the Gambit arena in the Dreaming City, would already be a welcome change.
Bungie has also noticed that players are not yet ready to give up Gambit, as the mode is actually an enrichment for Destiny 2.
Bungie wants to address player wishes in Season 16
Joe Blackburn, the Game Director of Destiny 2, addressed via Twitter the changes for PvP as well as the issues with Gambit. He even created a separate thread where suggestions from the entire community were discussed to improve this unique game mode together.
These are the changes Bungie has announced for Season 16: Besides changes to heavy ammo, Bungie is also planning nerfs for Invaders as well as changes to the Ancient battles.
But the best news is that Joe Blackburn mentioned the possibility of new Gambit maps in Season 16. Bungie is working on it. For every Gambit fan and those who want to become one, this is great news.
Let us know your thoughts on Gambit. Do you start the Gambit playlist every week or has it become too boring for you? What is actually your favorite location that you want to have back for Gambit? Would you like more weapons for Gambit that are worth farming?
