Destiny 2 wants to finally reward the players’ time with the “Solstice of Heroes” event. Changes have been made to the loot that the players desired – yet many players from the past years are still disappointed.
That’s why the summer event caused frustration: Destiny 2 traditionally celebrates the hot summer with the Solstice of Heroes. In the event, Guardians can have fun in a unique location and hunt for the most impressive armor in the game, which can be upgraded in multiple stages.
Those who made the effort in previous years and completely leveled up the damaged gear or even invested in flashy effects quickly found themselves disappointed: The armor became outdated in a very short time – either it was missing important modification options, had poor stats, or was quickly outpaced in levels.
But this year Bungie has listened to your criticism about Destiny 2:
Here’s what’s new: Bungie wants to “improve the earning experience of past years” during the 2020 Solstice (source) – players should feel permanently rewarded for their efforts and respected for their gameplay time.
- All players can automatically unlock a neutral, white glow on the event armor through challenges
- The coveted elemental glow effects are now universal ornaments – you can activate them on any “Armor 2.0” armor
- Glow effects from the Eververse now work for all elements (previously, a separate effect had to be purchased for each) – this even applies to the upcoming Stasis element this fall
- The universal ornaments are available in the Eververse for Glimmer (earnable currency) or Silver (real money currency)
- After reaching the penultimate stage, you can complete the final upgrade even after the event
- The Solstice armor remains relevant, as no overhaul of the gear is planned
These changes are being very well received by the Guardians. They feel that they have been listened to. However, many players who played diligently in previous years are disappointed and are calling for another change.
Players do not want to be charged again during Solstice of Heroes
This is what players are demanding: Players who purchased glow effects in previous Solstice events should not have to pay again for the current ones. A related post on reddit has now (08.11.20 – 9:00 AM) received 12,000 upvotes and over 1,100 comments with Guardians actively discussing.

To compensate players who took on the grind last time, they should bring back the ornaments + glow effects from last year for free. After all, it was several hours of grinding and about 10 € that we invested last year.

Many players are disappointed that Bungie is now responding to the criticism but does not appreciate their past time investment. Some would already be satisfied with a discount on the current set or wish that at least the old effects would be available as a variant of the ornaments.
