In Destiny 2 an exotic weapon of Season 19 has transformed from “From Zero to Hero”. It is currently, thanks to recent changes in the midseason update, the new star in PvE endgame. But before you search your vault for the Exo Pulse Rifle, let me tell you, there might be a problem.
Which weapon is it? The new star in the PvE endgame of Season 20 in Destiny 2 is the exotic 450 pulse rifle “Revision Null”. It comes from the Häkke manufacturer, is powerful, and features the carbon design of an Ikelos weapon.
- “Revision Null” was the second craftable Exotic in Destiny 2 in the previous Season 19
- It is a hybrid weapon, as it is a pulse rifle and sniper in one.
- Overall, one could earn four catalysts through the quest “More Than a Weapon” from the exotic mission “Operation: Seraph’s Shield”.
The Exo weapon was considered the most versatile gun of the entire loot shooter at the start of the quest in Season 19. However, that did not last long.
After the first impressions and a bit more gameplay, it became clear for many guardians that “Revision Null” could not really convince with its stats at that time, in Season 19. Even our MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos came to the conclusion: “Revision Null is a useful tool, but not a monster!”
Many guardians then saved themselves the further grind for this exceptional talent and did not unlock any more catalysts. Perhaps a wrong decision, as it has now turned out.
Update transforms underestimated Exo pulse into a monster
How did it come to this? Although the pulse rifle “Revision Null” was not a bad weapon, it simply did not stand out enough. There were too many and especially stronger alternatives in the endgame, like the Exo bow Wishender. So Bungie made improvements.
With the Midseason Patch, “Revision Null” got a hefty boost and transformed into a top-tier weapon. This has also been impressively noted by guardians, such as Aztecross or Paul Tassi, especially in PvE endgame.
The weapon can currently shine in any upcoming season with an anti-barrier pulse rifle mod and will thus directly compete with the exotic “Perfected Outbreak”.
How powerful the exotic of pulse and sniper rifle is now:
- Both the four-shot light and the two-shot heavy Häkke salvo benefit from the blanket 20% damage increase of the midseason update for pulse rifles against enemies with red and orange health bars.
- The special cat advantage of the weapon, the “Hunter’s Mark” can utilize the pulse rifle buff of 20%, although “Revision Null” then actually functions as a sniper rifle.
- Lastly, the damage of the Hunter’s Mark ammunition in PvE was increased by 25% and the damage of the heavy Häkke salvos in PvE by a whopping 75%.
Thus, “Revision Null” is a big winner of the midseason update and has been significantly improved.
Especially since the damage bonus of the Hunter’s Mark ammunition and the buff for the heavy Häkke salvos can also stack multiplicatively with the blanket increase of 20% for pulse rifles. On top of that comes the ability for the Exo weapon to intrinsically break anti-barrier champions.
What many guardians did not consider: When the Exo pulse rifle “Revision Null” was obtainable in Season 19, many guardians skipped the repeat of the quest and the earning of the catalysts because it was too weak for them back then.
They thought it would be more sensible to invest their time in the hunt for other weapons that were better at that time and would benefit them more. But this decision might be regretted at this point, as “Revision Null” is now the weapon that everyone wants.
What to do if you don’t have “Revision Null”? If you own “Revision Null”, then you are a true lucky one. For everyone else, it means long waiting. Because as it looks, the pulse rifle will only be obtainable again starting Season 22.
- Bungie has announced that there will be an activity rotation of content starting Season 22.
- They will start with the Exo missions from Season 13 “Signs”, from Season 16 “Vox Obscura”, and also from Season 19 the “Revision Null” operation: Seraph’s Shield.
- The missions will rotate weekly and offer the option for top loot.
Whether the old quest for the pulse rifle “More Than a Weapon” will return is uncertain, but still possible.
If not, Bungie could also make the weapon available somewhere, like the hand cannon “Hawkmoon” with Xur. In either case, acquiring the weapon will likely be tied to owning a DLC.
Overall, the story of “Revision Null” is a good example that you never know when a weapon or an item in Destiny 2 can suddenly become a star. Just one update is enough and the meta shifts in favor of other exotics that were previously rather inconspicuous. Nevertheless, guardians must decide for themselves whether they want to use the pulse rifle in endgame or not. Because personal preferences play a role too.
