In Destiny 2, the Guardians lose all their powers and start over. Bungie explains the next adventure.
During the livestream of the gameplay premiere of Destiny 2, three ViDocs were shown – short videos where the developers discuss and explain important aspects of the game. The three ViDocs have now been released.
Destiny 2 – The Next Adventure
The first video is called “The Next Adventure”. It focuses on the setting of Destiny 2 and some new features compared to Destiny 1:
What happens when in a world full of superheroes they lose their powers, their history, and their home, asks Project Lead Mark Noseworthy. Because that is exactly what happens at the beginning of Destiny 2. While the Guardians in Destiny 1 could withstand all dangers thanks to the Light of the Traveler, whether it’s Crota, Oryx, or the “spider monsters”, in Destiny 2 they face an enemy who has the power to take those powers away: Gary Ghaul!
In Destiny 2, you are the underdogs, the underprivileged, who are reduced from Light Level 400 to 0 and face a superior force of Cabal. Your task now is to regain the powers, gather the units, and challenge Ghaul to reclaim your home.
Who is Ghaul in Destiny 2?
Ghaul is a Cabal warlord who leads the Red Legion. He comes to the solar system to seize the Light of the Traveler. He introduces himself in the video: “I am Ghaul. And your Light is mine!”
Ghaul is jealous of you. He wants the Light. He thinks that the Light of the Traveler belongs to him. He should have been the chosen one, not the Guardians. He has gone through so much in his life that he believes he has a right to it now.
So Ghaul comes to Earth with a clear goal in mind, which he immediately puts into action. He traps the Traveler in a sort of cage, and instantly all Guardians lose their Light. They have no powers left and can barely walk. Many die, some flee to the European Dead Zone. The Vanguard is scattered.
You are now the heroes of the story, setting out to regain your powers. You start as underdogs and must fight your way back to the top.
