Bungie’s marketing machinery is in full swing, revealing more and more exciting details about the upcoming Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2. Now there is even discussion about a possible return of the Ahamkara.
The Ahamkara, a race of mysterious dragon-like beings from the Destiny universe, are once again at the center of some discussions. The community has often debated whether they represent a distinct dragon race or if the Ahamkara possibly belong to the same species as the Worm Gods.
However, after the recent details in the exclusive reporting by Game Informer, some fans are now speculating whether these beings might actually come into play with the Forsaken expansion.
Will the Ahamkara make their entrance with Forsaken?
What are the Ahamkara? The Ahamkara are powerful and wise dragon beings, said to even have the ability to grant wishes. They are believed to have been nearly wiped out during the Great Ahamkara Hunt. It is said that the Guardians killed almost all dragons in the entire solar system, as the Vanguard deemed them too powerful and a threat. Their remains can still be found in parts as armor pieces. However, there are rumors that some Ahamkara may have survived.
The assumption that they are a dragon race, however, is disputed and embodies a long-standing point of contention among lore experts in the Destiny community. Some fans are convinced that the Ahamkara are the same species as the Worm Gods. However, neither of the two positions is definitively proven.
Possible return? Some lines from an exclusive Game Informer article are currently rekindling debates around the Ahamkara.
It is mentioned regarding the Dreaming City in the original English: “Virtually drawn from the page of a classic fantasy novel, this is the elven homeland under threat from an insidious dragon that has infected its heart.”
There’s a lot of discussion again: Especially the dragon part has captivated some fans. Some see it as a hint at a potential return of the Ahamkara – whether in the Dreaming City itself or possibly in the new raid. Bungie is actually known for making such statements well thought out and not just casually mentioned.
Others, however, see a misunderstood metaphor. It should be clear to most that the homeland of the elves is the Dreaming City. But the dragon could just as easily mean a general threat, such as the Taken, who have ultimately infected the Dreaming City and are obviously the main adversaries in this area. This is evident from the same article.
Whether it’s merely a misinterpreted metaphor or if this theory might actually hold some truth will become clear by early September at the latest. Because on September 4, 2018, the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2 will be released.
