Gambit is not the only new mode being introduced with the release of the Forsaken expansion to Destiny 2. The Crucible is also getting a new format in the form of Breakthrough. In addition, four new PvP maps are coming.

With the Forsaken addon, PvP in Destiny 2 is also seeing some updates in the fall of 2018. As Bungie exclusively revealed to Game Informer, alongside four new maps, a new game mode will be introduced in the Crucible – Breakthrough. We summarize the details we know so far for you.
Breakthrough Mode and 4 New Maps – However, Not Directly at Launch
New Maps and New Mode: As the Crucible Design Lead Derek Carroll stated at Game Informer, the team will take a break for a few weeks with the Forsaken release. After that, they will release four new maps and the new Breakthrough mode for the Crucible.
Unfortunately, there were no further details on the new maps. However, some details were revealed about the new mode.
This is what makes Breakthrough special: According to the description, Breakthrough will likely be found in the competitive playlist. The new mode is designed for two 4-player teams and offers objective-oriented gameplay. Carroll outlines the new PvP mode as follows:

At the start of each round, both teams try to capture the Breaker, which then allows them to hack the opposing Vault. Once the middle Breaker is captured, it cannot be recaptured by the opponent. One team thus goes into defense. The attackers must capture the opponent’s Vault before time runs out to secure the round for themselves. Otherwise, the defenders win.
Similar to Control: The description sounds very much like a modified Control mode, in which up to three different zones must be captured on the map. The most significant difference, however, is the fixed role distribution between attackers and defenders that cannot be changed in each round, unlike the regular Control mode. Some similarities to the Headquarters mode from the Call of Duty series are also evident in Breakthrough.
What do you think of this new Crucible mode? Will it provide additional variety, or do you believe more innovation is needed from Bungie?
