To the astonishment of numerous Guardians, Bungie recently disabled the gear feature on apps and third-party sites for Destiny 2. Now it becomes clear why. The reason was an exploit that allowed players to reach the max power level of 385 in a very short time.
App features disabled: Shortly before the start of the first Iron Banner of Season 3, numerous Guardians were surprised to find that the equip feature of apps and sites like Ishtar Commander, Destiny Item Manager, or Bungie’s own Companion App no longer worked. The transfer feature could still be used normally.
Subsequently, Bungie announced that the equip feature for the respective apps and sites had been disabled. The studio did not provide reasons for this.
Exploit is the reason for the restrictions: Some time later, the reason became apparent. A randomly discovered exploit made the rounds among players. Some Guardians abused the gear mechanics to make their way to the new level cap easier.

With a trick, it became possible to reach the new maximum power level of 385 in a short time. Tutorials were found on YouTube and in some forums. In the meantime, the relevant posts have been deleted.
Equip feature exploit helps players to max level
With the trick, players equipped an item via apps or sites that they simultaneously deleted. This resulted in the corresponding gear slot becoming empty. They followed this methodology until only one item remained – the one with the highest power level value. The game then considered this value as the power level of the respective character.
If, for example, one had a 365 helmet, the game assumed a character level of 365 and thus dropped high-level items from corresponding sources. They then equipped the new stronger item and continued to abuse this trick until they reached the maximum level.
Bungie seems to have quickly put a stop to the exploit by disabling the equip feature, to prevent even more players from abusing this mechanics. When a permanent solution will be provided is not yet known.
What do you think of the whole thing? Should Bungie take action against the exploiters?
