Destiny 2 prevented AFK farming in the forges of the Black Armory last night. The easy collecting of Umbral Engrams is now over.
What was the AFK farming about? In the new Season 11, many players used an old trick in the forges of the Black Armory and farmed Umbral Engrams in AFK (away from keyboard, basically without their own effort) massively – to the annoyance of some players and streamers. More about this can be found here: Exploit plagues Destiny 2: Players enrich themselves AFK on new Engrams
With this, they were able to push their power level, collect special materials, or hunt for specific god rolls on the new weapons of Season 11 – and all without playing the new, intended content.
This is how Bungie reacted: But that ended last night (June 16). Bungie implemented a server-side fix on Destiny 2. Since then, AFK farming in the forges is no longer possible.
What exactly does the fix do? With the fix, you no longer stay permanently in the matchmaking of the forges. After each ignition, whether successful or not, you go to orbit. If you want to stay, you have to select the activity again.
Thus, you can no longer simply let the console or PC run comfortably overnight, while you work or shop, and still clear the mentioned Engrams.
There were also Engrams after failed ignitions, which occurred so quickly (if you just stood still) that you were not kicked for inactivity.
In short: If you want to get Umbral Engrams now, you can no longer avoid actually doing something.
Will there be penalties? There was no official statement on this specific case. However, it is unlikely that Bungie will impose account bans, temporary suspensions, or warnings. Bungie usually does not sanction such mistakes by the studio “in favor of the players.”
