Destiny 2 fundamentally revises the oldest companions of the Guardians. Finally, the requested separation of functionality and aesthetics comes.
This is what happens with Ghosts: Since their first seconds in the world of Destiny, players have been accompanied by their personal Ghost (Ghost). The cute companion speaks on our behalf, unlocks doors, and diligently revives us. With Beyond Light , the Ghost finally receives a revision that makes it significantly more useful and that players have long demanded.
Basically, Ghosts are expanded around the functions of “Armor 2.0” armors. They then have 4 mod slots, can be masterworks, and have an energy pool.
You can then customize your Ghost to your liking. The best part: these changes apply to all new and old Ghost shells (except for the all-round shell – this is the first green shell that every player automatically found).
This is what the upgrade looks like in detail: Each Ghost shell can be leveled separately and increases up to a maximum of 10 energy (masterwork). You can then allocate the 4 mod slots according to your preference. Each mod consumes a different amount of energy – depending on how powerful or useful the function is.
The slots are divided into 4 thematic areas, each offering different mods:
- Experience Mod – Here you choose how high the XP bonus should be (for 6 energy, there is, for example, a 12% experience boost on everything)
- Tracking Mod – Everything from finding chests to marking specific items falls under this category
- Economy Mod – Want more Glimmer or resources? Then an investment here is worthwhile
- Activity Mod – Here you choose special bonuses for Crucible and Gambit matches or Strikes (the slot is only available for masterwork shells)
You can freely decide whether to equip all 4 slots with mods or prefer to focus on a few, but expensive mods. All mods will be obtainable in the game and are not available for purchase in the Eververse.
Many of the known perks from Ghost shells are also being integrated into the mod pool and are immediately available to all players. Some examples of specific options will transform into global ones, meaning: From Mercury Depot Finder, it becomes a Depot Finder that works in all locations.
Destiny 2 wants to separate aesthetics and functionality
This is why the update was urgently needed: In the design of Ghost shells, designers at Bungie put in a lot of effort. They come up with many fun or crazy ideas. Every player has their favorites and wants to customize their Ghost as they like. After all, you see the guy constantly when scanning objects, opening the map, or hovering next to you in the menu.
Unfortunately, it happened far too often that the coolest Ghost shells had negligible perks. Many players only use variants with “Guiding Light” (more XP) or “Treasure Hunter”.
With Beyond Light, appearance is finally decoupled from functionality. We choose a Ghost shell that appeals to us aesthetically and then customize it according to our wishes.
It is, of course, also possible to create a separate shell for each situation. In the patrol area, a Ghost with a straw hat is used, which shows resources and chests and provides an XP boost. For the Trials weekend, you pull out the burning shell and invest everything in expensive PVP mods – after all, the sweating should pay off.
