In Destiny 2, the once-popular Iron Banner has lost a lot of its appeal. New weapons in Season 14 and the prospect of fresh armor are supposed to give Guardians a reason to compete again.
This surprises the Guardians: The Iron Banner event in Destiny 2 is getting new loot. Yes, you read that right. Bungie is giving the rusty mode fresh weapons. We’ll show you the 4 guns that you can hunt in Season 14. The season begins in May 2021.
Additionally, the Destiny developer talked about new armor. MeinMMO also explains why the once-popular mode finally deserves some love.
These weapons come in Season 14:
The displayed image shows 2 brand new weapons and 2 classics that will be upgraded with new, random perks.
- The heavy machine gun and the shotgun are new. We currently do not know the names, perks, or archetypes of the fresh toys.
- The sniper rifle “Locked Finality” originally came from 2018 in Destiny 2. Back then, there was only one fixed perk on legendary weapons, instead of the two random ones today. It is a slow 72er with Arc damage.
- The hand cannon “Finite Impactor” is also known to veterans from 2018. The revolver belongs to the 140s, adds Arc damage, and is available for the first time with random rolls.
The last truly new weapon actually came into the Iron Banner in early 2020. Back then, you could finally earn the bow “Antlersprout“.
Rusty Stagnation Instead of Hot Love
This is the criticism: In Destiny 1, the monthly Iron Banner was always seen as a highlight. The weapons were among the best you could use, and the rewards usually had a very high level, which could only be achieved in a few other activities. The story of the Iron Lords was so cool that even a whole DLC revolved around it.
The Guardians still reminisce about those bygone days, and Bungie is riding the nostalgia wave by bringing back old favorites (or monsters) like Felwinter’s Lie to Destiny 2. However, for a long time now, the Iron Banner has lost much of its shine. For years, there have only been re-skins of weapons and armor, and the mode is not evolving. For many, only 4 bounties remain, giving them another option to earn high-level loot.

What about new armor?
Every season, the Guardians hope for new armor sets that the Iron Banner should bring. Many players celebrate the knight look, with its wolf ornaments and martial medieval references. This is a nice break from the sci-fi setting. In the title image, you can see Lord Saladin as a representative of this.
In Season 14, however, the wait is unfortunately not over. When it will happen remains unknown. However, Bungie gave this outlook when presenting the new weapons: “We also plan new armor for the Iron Banner. However, these sets will only appear in later seasons, but your wish for new gear has been heard.”
Now it remains to be seen whether after Season 14, a year will pass again without fresh loot coming into the Iron Banner pool or if Bungie can deliver. The ratio of 2 new guns and 2 newly released classics per season would surely please many Guardians.
Bungie is slowly making significant efforts to improve the criticized PvP. For this reason, they are using the Iron Banner as a testbed for a new algorithm.
