In Destiny 2, Season 15 promises an exciting story. But why are we, commanded by our new arch-enemy as a statue, obediently following? Bungie answers this with a cool video – but how credible is it really?
In Destiny 2, the new Season 15, the Season of the Lost has begun. We Guardians are, of course, saving the universe once again. It is already apparent that Bungie is maintaining the high story level of recent months. The insult: “Destiny has no story” has long been outdated.
So that we don’t wander blindly, we are given orders from two queens who are both at the center of the story:
- Mara Sov: The Queen of the Awoken has returned after two years of absence. The tasks of the charming yet mysterious lady are eagerly accepted by the Guardians.
- Savathûn: The anything but charming lady is the Witch Queen, sister of the overlord Oryx, and we suddenly play the servant for her. She is a quest-giver and seems to be quite close with Mara.
It may be because she only speaks to us as a grotesque statue, mocking us for months and holding Osiris hostage, but why should we obey the orders of our declared enemy? Bungie now answers this question and “who is Savathûn?” with a stylish video.

“I am not evil and you are not heroic”
Since Osiris’s transformation into the odd, speaking statue in the Dreaming City, many Guardians have countless questions, some of which the video answers.
This is what to see: Behind everything that has happened in Destiny 2 since summer 2020 is Savathûn. Yet she tells us that she has taken care of all the “good” and has been permanently helping us Guardians out of trouble for several seasons.
This is what we learn:
- She protected and warned us against the incoming Darkness in the form of pyramid ships. We Guardians called it “interference” (that’s what the weekly missions were called back in Season 11).
- To better assist us mere mortals, the very noble Savathûn chose a form we could better relate to: Osiris.
- The once powerful Warlock Osiris wandered the cosmos devoid of Light. The Witch Queen selflessly saved Osiris from Xivu Arath (her own sister) and casually helped us in the fight against the Fallen in Season 12.
- We at MeinMMO didn’t understand any of this, and thus we speculated for months that Osiris was possessed and the enemy was in the city.
- Our new hope Crow – the former murderer of Cayde-6 and incidentally Mara Sov’s brother – only found his way to the city thanks to Savathûn’s care and has been by our side ever since.
- But don’t forget: The impending war with the Cabal, where Zavala really showcased his Guardian prowess (Season 13), was ended by Savathûn just as she ended the conflict with Nazi Robot Lady Lakshmi from Season 14.
At this point, let’s just say thank you, thank you Savathûn, oh you selfless Witch Queen. And of course, we no longer question why we should not blindly follow your orders… or should we?
What is behind Savathûn’s plan until the “Witch Queen” expansion?
Light-blinded Guardians might now think that Savathûn is simply lying to us and twisting the truth. But we also wonder why the Witch Queen only frees the real Osiris when we have helped her? Somehow not so selfless, right? And what does she even need help with?
We are to help Savathûn get rid of her worm.
This worm once bestowed her and Oryx with god-like powers, but it also consumes them. If the Hive do not feed their worms with death and destruction, the alien insects devour their hosts. If we free her from this burden – however we can – she will surely be nice to humanity.
How credible is this? Byf, the biggest lore expert of Destiny, issues a clear warning: “Do not trust the Witch Queen!” (via YouTube). And he is probably not entirely wrong.
Since Bungie has already presented the big expansion for 2022, we have an information advantage over our Guardians. In the add-on “Witch Queen” we will fight against Savathûn, this time in her true form:
On top of that, the dear lady has also stolen our Light and created Hive-Guardians. Including ghosts and our super skills. But whether it will only be against Savathûn in the new expansion or if a completely different enemy is waiting for us remains to be seen. After all, we are not supposed to learn the whole truth until February 2022 (the release date of the DLC), according to Savathûn.
