In Destiny 2, players can now go on Wrathborn Hunts and need a lure for that. MeinMMO explains how the new activity and the seasonal item from Season 12 work and level up quickly.
What kind of lure is this? Season 12, the Season of the Hunt, lives up to its name and sends you hunting for Wrathborn. These Wrathborn do not simply hang around – you must lure them out with a lure and then pick up their trail until you finally take them down.
To start a Wrathborn Hunt, you need to charge your Cryptolith Lure. With the lure, you determine which loot you will receive as a reward and which target you are hunting.
- You will receive the important seasonal item when you complete the introductory mission of Season 12 on the Moon.
- Then visit Spider and Crow (Uldren) in the Tangled Shore.
- If you are new to Destiny 2, you must complete the first mission on the Moon and in the Tangled Shore to unlock the locations – even Free2Play Guardians can do this without issues.

Destiny 2: Wrathborn Hunt from the Season of the Hunt in Brief
How to prepare the lure for the hunt: Select your Cryptolith Lure in the quest menu.
- In the lower left, you select which target you want to hunt through the so-called “Loot Mod.” The available targets change randomly with their rewards.
- With strong and weak “Mutation Mods,” you specify whether your loot has specific perks or which stats should be prioritized.
- The mutation mods disappear when used – but don’t worry, you will find them often and can buy new ones for Glimmer.
Once you have filled all 5 slots in the charged lure, the Wrathborn Hunt can start!
The Most Important Information on Wrathborn Hunts: Since Season 12, you can find a new seasonal activity in the Tangled Shore and later in the Dreaming City: the Wrathborn Hunts. With a charged lure, they are kindly marked on the map.
At the large construct, the Cryptolith, you will interact, and a boss will appear. You cannot defeat them; you can only severely injure them. Now the chase begins:
- If the boss is almost dead, it will vanish – you can interact at the spot of its disappearance for 30 seconds.
- A green trail will light up, leading you to another area – so jump on your Sparrow.
- At the end of the trail, you will initiate the boss fight again.
- Save your power ammo and your super; once the weakened boss is defeated, the actual target will appear.
How to Win: This boss is initially immune. To break its shield, you need to kill adds in the area that have a green aura around them.
A green puddle will appear at their location; stand in it to receive a buff: “enraged.” Now you can leave the green area and take care of the boss – the fight should be quick, even solo. Now you get your reward.
How Does the Cryptolith Lure Work in the Season of the Hunt?
How Charging Works: As mentioned, you can only go on the big game hunt if your Cryptolith Lure is charged. Select the item from the quest menu and get an overview of the charge status.
You will receive the necessary charges in the regular playlist activities.
- Strikes
- Gambit Matches
- Crucible Matches
So you can complete your playlist activities for progress or have fun and charge the lure at the same time.
You can store up to 5 full charges – a fully charged lure allows for 5 Wrathborn Hunts. Since December 14, you charge the lure twice as fast.
The Fastest Method to Level Up the Lure
If you want to level up the lure in record time, you should start a specific strike but then apply a trick:
- Select the strike “The Lake of Shadows” on the overview map of the European Dead Zone (EDZ)
- At the very beginning, do not follow the strike route but head into the Lost Sector “Widow’s Walk”
- Here, you will charge all 5 charges in a few minutes
- To do this, you need to defeat the Fallen Captain marked as “wanted” in the sector; also deal with the Nightmare Shanks
- Be nice and finish the strike normally at the end

Important: This only works within the strike. The special enemies in the Lost Sector count this way towards strike progress.
What You Need to Know About Lure Upgrades and Recon Data in Season 12
If you want to get the most out of your lure, you should upgrade it. Visit Crow in the Tangled Shore – the NPC stands left of Spider.
- He offers you bounties
- Here you exchange “Recon Data” for rank increases and improve your reputation with Crow
- You will also find the section “Lure Mods and Upgrades” here
Each rank increase with Crow gives you an upgrade point. You then spend these on improvements. The menu is not too complex as there are only 6 improvements.
This is the best upgrade path: At the beginning, all improvements and mods that give you as much recon data as possible are important. Therefore, for your first hunt targets, select enemies that drop recon data as a reward, not weapons or armors.

You can also buy mods and upgrades that specify your loot. This way, you decide which perks or rolls you want. However, it is advisable to work on leveling up quickly first – this way, you will benefit more in the long run.
Mods also drop from regular activities and the Wrathborn Hunts themselves.

Where to find recon data for Crow? Primarily, you get the recon data needed for rank increases from the Wrathborn Hunts themselves. The rate increases significantly when you have unlocked the reputation boosts and are using the corresponding mods.
