In Destiny 2, you now have to fight against the arrival of Darkness. The new contact event even has a hidden difficulty.
This is the new PvE activity: In Season 11 of Destiny 2, everything revolves around the arrival of Darkness. In the seasonal contact event, we encounter mini-versions of the mysterious pyramids, which unleash numerous enemies on us.
In this article, MeinMMO reveals the most important information about how the activity works, how to activate the secret heroic variant, and some tricks to help you easily cope with Darkness – oh yes, you’ll also read what you get out of it.
The most important facts:
- The contact event is currently taking place on Io – you can see the pyramid icon on the map
- You can start the activity at any time by interacting with the small circle near the floating pyramid
- The activity is located in a public space; similar to public events, roaming Guardians can help you, even if they are not in your fireteam
- The activity starts at 990 Power and increases up to 1040 Power
How to play the contact event: If you are familiar with the Gambit mode, you already have half of it covered. In the contact event, you also need to deposit dropped particles into the bank until it is full.
The event consists of 4 rounds, which become increasingly difficult and end with a boss fight. You are also under time pressure during your task.
This is an example round:
- Defeat Vex or Cabal near the bank to generate particles
- Pick up the particles and carry them to the bank; with a button press, you deposit your “Motes of Darkness” (you can carry 10 particles by default)
- When the bank reaches 100%, the next round begins at the same spot
- Meanwhile, possessed enemies and champions periodically appear to make your life difficult
- If enemies besiege the bank, it will be locked, and you must reclaim the area
The event is considered complete when you have filled the banks over 4 rounds within the time limit and have defeated the spawning possessed boss. By the way, you earn extra time after each round. However, in round 4, so many enemies appear that you need to hurry.
Activate the heroic version of the contact event in the Season of Arrival
How to trigger secret difficulty: Similar to public events, there is a tougher, secret difficulty in the contact event. To activate it, you need to feed the bank four times with the so-called “Flor”. This is a charge sphere that you have to find and fight for.
During each of the four event rounds, look for a beam of light. This marks a small area guarded by some enemies and a champion. If the champion is down, it drops the Flor charge.
Now carry the charge to the bank and deposit it as usual – you cannot use weapons during this, so be careful. If you manage to do this in every round, the heroic version of the contact event will start.
This is different on heroic:
- From now on, numerous possessed enemies will appear
- To complete the event, you must defeat a new, stronger boss: the Pyromaster
- Each time the boss loses a third of its health, it gains a shield. To break this, you need to destroy a possessed blight. This will be indicated to you with a quest marker.
These rewards are available: There don’t seem to be special weapons or armor in the contact event. Instead, you will receive the new Umbral Engrams here.
On heroic, you even have the chance to receive already focused engrams – this will save you a lot of resources. You can also get seasonal materials here. Furthermore, participation in the event is required for the quest “Means to an End.”

Tips to get through the contact event more easily
MeinMMO has a few additional tips that might help you with the new PvE activity. If new strategies are discovered throughout Season 11, we will add them here.
- Through the Prism Umbrella, you can unlock all sorts of extras and bonuses for the contact event. For example, you can increase your loot chances or carry more particles.
- Be sure to use the powerful artifact mods. Without them, the champions are very difficult to defeat. Ideally, your team has covered each of the 3 anti-champion mods.
- If you haven’t activated everything in the artifact yet, you can also use exotics that intrinsically have disruption features. These include:
If the higher levels or the heroic variant of the contact event are currently too difficult for you, do not stress. Especially at the beginning of a season, many players are still under-leveled. In the next few weeks, the activity will become noticeably easier.
These classes should you use:
- As a Hunter, the Voidwalker Arrow is recommended – This allows you to achieve excellent add-control, weaken strong enemies, and generate plenty of orbs of light
- Warlocks utilize the Stormcaller with the Crown of Storms – This keeps all enemies in check and lets the lightning do your work (alternatively, you can quickly eliminate champions with Nova Bombs)
- Titans do everything right with the Solar Hammer – Melting points work wonders against bosses and fiery explosions take out multiple enemies
