With the season of Twilight, a new artifact has also found its way into Destiny 2. Read here where to get the Lantern of Osiris and what powerful mods await you this time.
These are artifacts in Destiny 2: The artifact is a seasonally bound and thematically inspired item that is available to all Guardians – regardless of additional game content or season passes.
The artifact can be leveled up, unlocking various seasonal mods for weapons and armor. Guardians can further personalize their playstyle in conjunction with Armor 2.0. The artifact enables enormously powerful builds.
Thanks to the artifact, you are able to progress beyond the actual maximum power level – and essentially infinitely. A key note: the seasonal artifact and all its bonuses will disappear from the game at the end of the season.
What’s in the Lantern of Osiris
This is how the new artifact works: The current artifact is named ‘The Lantern of Osiris’ and thematically relates to Egyptian mythology, just like its namesake. You level it up basically just by playing. The lantern benefits from all XP from activities and bounties, for example.
The power bonus from the artifact counts in addition to the current maximum level of 960. Aside from a level advantage, the artifact brings powerful mods into the game. The necessary unlocks can also be earned through gained XP.
You can check the status of the seasonal artifact at any time in your inventory. From here, you can also access the mod selection. Every new artifact level requires more XP than the previous one.
How do I get the Lantern of Osiris? Unlike the predecessor artifact from Season 8, the lantern is not available to you right away at the start of the season.
To make use of the current artifact and its benefits, you need to complete a quest line. The tasks will introduce you to the story and activities from the Season of Twilight.
How to get your hands on the Lantern of Osiris can be read in our guide to the Sundial and the mysterious Obelisks:
These mods are in Season 9 from the artifact
Interesting facts about artifact mods: The artifact offers a total of 25 different mods across 5 tiers. You can unlock up to 12 of them at the same time. The selection can be reset at any time if the situation requires it or if you want to try something new. However, a reset will cost you Glimmer and will apparently get more expensive each time.
In each tier, there are 5 mods that become more powerful with increasing level. To unlock the next tier of mods, you must have unlocked a certain number of mods in previous tiers.
Mods of Tier 1 (no artifact mods required): These mods are especially important against the Champions from the Seraph Tower or Sundial. Because without them, it’s nearly impossible to defeat the enhanced enemies. These are mods for specific weapon types.
- Anti-Barrier Ranger: Shield-breaking ammunition to bypass the defenses of opposing fighters. Strong against Barrier Champions. Applicable to bows, scout rifles, and pulse rifles.
- Unstoppable Shot: Using the aiming device charges a powerful explosive round that stuns unprotected enemies. Strong against Unstoppable Champions. Applicable to scout rifles.
- Unstoppable Charge: Using the aiming device charges a piercing explosive round that stuns unprotected enemies. Strong against Unstoppable Champions. Applicable to pulse rifles.
- Unstoppable Arrows: Arrows fired with a fully drawn bow unleash a powerful explosive charge that stuns unprotected enemies. Strong against Unstoppable Champions. Applicable to bows.
- Overload Rounds: Uninterrupted fire grants disruptive rounds that delay ability energy regeneration and reduce enemy damage inflicted. Strong against Overload Champions. Applicable to auto rifles and submachine guns.
Mods of Tier 2 (one artifact mod required): The mods of Tier 2 are all improved mods for precision weapons. While they don’t differ in their mechanics from their regular counterparts, they cost significantly less energy. Only 2-3 instead of the usual 5-6 energy costs are required for the mods. This way, you have space in your armor for additional support options.
- Improved Rifle Loader: Significantly increases the reload speed of all weapon classes. Mounted in the arm armor. (Energy Cost: 3)
- Improved Precision Rifle Aiming: Significantly reduces flinch from taking damage while aiming with weapon classes. Mounted in the chest armor. (Energy Cost: 3)
- Improved Bow Loader: Significantly increases the draw speed of arrows. Mounted in the arm armor. (Energy Cost: 2)
- Improved Sniper Rifle Loader: Significantly increases the reload speed of sniper rifles. Mounted in the arm armor. (Energy Cost: 2)
- Improved Linear Fusion Aiming: Significantly improves target acquisition, accuracy, and aiming speed for linear fusion rifles. Mounted in the head armor. (Energy Cost: 2)
If you are wondering which weapons benefit from the mods: According to Reddit, weapons of the rifle class include
- Scout rifles
- Pulse rifles
- Auto rifles
- Sniper rifles
- Fusion rifles and
- Linear fusion rifles
Mods of Tier 3 (4 artifact mods required): At Tier 3, the bonuses grant you additional resources. These are general armor mods. The energy costs are all 1, so they don’t take up much space in your “Armor 2.0” armor. However, the listed mods are not stackable.
- Solidus Strike: Defeating Cabal with finishers grants additional Glimmer.
- Shatter Gladius: Defeating Cabal Minotaurs grants weapon master materials.
- Bio-Monetizer: Defeating the Hive grants additional Glimmer.
- Seal of the Tenth Collector: Defeating Cabal grants additional Glimmer.
- Roving Knight: Defeating Hive Knights grants destination materials.
Mods of Tier 4 (7 artifact mods required): The mods at Tier 4 further strengthen you against champions and special enemies, forming synergies with the mods from Tier 1. The focus now lies on your Guardian’s abilities. These armor mods are mounted in the chest armor.
- Breakthrough Resonator: Grants melee and grenade energy on finishes with shield-breaking weapons or when a member of your fireteam stops a Barrier Champion’s ability. (Energy Cost: 5)
- Overload Meltdown: Solar grenades cause disruption, delaying ability energy regeneration and reducing damage from fighters. Strong against Overload Champions. (Energy Cost: 2)
- Disruptor Tip: Enhances the effect of disruption and reduces damage from enemies even further. (Energy Cost: 2)
- Unstoppable Black Hole Condenser: Void melee abilities stagger unprotected enemy fighters. Strong against Unstoppable Champions. (Energy Cost: 3)
- Softener: Staggered Unstoppable Champions temporarily increase the weapon damage of all allies. (Energy Cost: 3)
Mods of Tier 5 (10 artifact mods required): At Tier 5, you receive the most powerful mods in the Lantern of Osiris. They are all intended for your armor’s class item and go into the seasonal slot. They greatly change your efficiency on the battlefield.
- Guardian Angel: Grants a chance to create healing orbs for you on precision kills with scout rifles, sniper rifles, bows, and linear fusion rifles. (Energy Cost 4)
- Void Battery: Grants an overshield while activating Void class abilities. Additionally speeds up class ability cooldown. (Energy Cost: 5)
- Heavy Finisher: Finishers generate heavy ammunition. Requires half of your super energy. (Energy Cost: 7)
- Sun Thread: Increases the damage of all solar melee abilities. Gain super energy from finishers when a solar focus is equipped. (Energy Cost: 6)
- From the Depths: Grants a bonus on Void super damage when activated in a severely injured state. Lasts until the end of super activation. (Energy Cost: 3)
