Destiny 2 leads the Guardians into new worlds: This includes the European Dead Zone, Titan, Nessus, and Io. What awaits the players in the new areas?
In Destiny 2, the Guardians will explore new worlds. This has been known since the reveal trailer at the end of March. Since the gameplay premiere, we also know which worlds are involved: The European Dead Zone, Titan, Nessus, and Io.
In Destiny 2, the Vanguard is scattered and as a player, your goal is to visit the new locations and reunite the Vanguard to reclaim the home that Ghaul seized with his Red Legion.
The “European Dead Zone” in Destiny 2
In Destiny 2, you will enter the European Dead Zone early on. This is by far the largest area ever created by the developers.
Here, many Guardians found refuge after the Cabal attack and set up a camp. They did not want to flee further, but rather to become strong again as a community.
Hawthorne
During the gameplay premiere, Hawthorne was briefly seen in the European Dead Zone (who is not the strange Exo). You will encounter this new character in Destiny 2. She lives in the wilderness and founded her own community there.
The European Dead Zone features a forest, an abandoned city, a cave system beneath the surface, and a military base of the Red Legion (the Cabal).
Titan in Destiny 2
Titan is a moon of Saturn. There you will meet Zavala, who has to recover from the Cabal’s attack and the defeat suffered on Titan. This moon consists of a “methane sea”, which has 40-meter-high waves. There is no landmass.
Instead, you will explore several platforms and buildings that were constructed during the height of the Golden Age.
Nessus in Destiny 2
Nessus is a planetoid, a dwarf planet. In this world, Cayde-6 is located.
Nessus is occupied by the Vex, who transformed the dwarf planet into a “machine world”. There is strange vegetation (the leaves are not green but red) and there are extremely deep chasms. Additionally, you will discover “creepy Vex caves”.
Io in Destiny
Io is a yellow sulfur moon of Jupiter. Ikora Rey has retreated there, as Io is considered a “sacred place” especially for Warlocks.
Io represents the last place in the solar system that the Traveler touched before its downfall. Here, there is said to be plenty of mythology, lore, and secrets to be found. Now, it is occupied by enemies.
The features in the new worlds
A welcome innovation that allows you to travel faster from one world to another is the revamped Navigator. In Destiny 1, you had to return to orbit every time to select a new destination. In Destiny 2, you simply open the Navigator and select the desired location or planet directly. According to Luke Smith, this way you can jump into the action faster than ever before. They want to “remove as many obstacles as possible between your weapons and the faces of your enemies.”
Using the Navigator, you can also choose landing zones for “Adventures”, “Lost Sectors”, and new public events.
Adventures: These are short missions where players can get to know the “Destiny 2” universe and the characters that inhabit it better.
Lost Sectors: These are enemy dungeons where unique bosses reside, guarding treasures.
Public Events: Similar to previous events: These are optional and can be completed either solo or with other players alongside. They are designed to be unique and dynamic combat activities.
