In Destiny 2, you can expect a lot of new things on Mercury – including the largest public event to date.
A few weeks ago, a handful of YouTubers were able to travel to Seattle to take a look at “Curse of Osiris” together with Bungie employees. They were able to capture gameplay footage, which they are now gradually allowed to release following the Bungie livestreams.
After the second livestream, the gameplay footage focuses on the Patrol Zone on Mercury, with the major highlight being the most extensive public event in Destiny 2 so far.

The “largest, most elaborate, and rewarding public event in Destiny’s history,” according to Bungie, is called “Vex Crossroads.”
Unlike most other public events that can take place on any Destiny 2 world, Vex Crossroads has been tailored to Mercury. It is quite a dynamic event that takes you almost all over Mercury.
It consists of several phases:
- First, kill all Vex enemies until Gatekeepers appear.
- To the east and west, there are play areas (“islands”) that are accessible via jump portals. You must defeat Gatekeepers there. They drop spheres that you dunk into a marked spot to deactivate “Warp-Gates.”

- Do this on both sides until a Gate Lord appears in the middle. Defeat it to receive loot.
Here you can see gameplay footage of it. The spot is marked from 1:10:
This “most rewarding loot” consists of two chests at the end. In the stream, they only contained blue items and tokens.
The event also has a heroic mode. How this is activated has not yet been revealed. But it causes the Gate Lord to have an impenetrable shield around it at the end. To destroy the shield, you must defeat an additional Gatekeeper nearby. This will drop a sphere that you can then throw into a device. Now the Gate Lord is vulnerable.
5 more features that the Patrol Zone on Mercury offers
The playable patrol area on Mercury is said to be smaller than that on Titan. However, one must not forget that Mercury also includes the Infinite Forest, which provides a lot of additional gameplay area.
- There is one – and only one – Lost Sector on Mercury. This operates just like Lost Sectors do: you fight against many enemies, here against the Vex, defeat the boss, and open the chest.

- Throughout the patrol area, there are “jump portals” that quickly transport you from one place to another:

- The Mercury resources are called “Simulation Seed” and can be exchanged with Brother Vance. They work just like other planetary resources and look like this:

- There are Vex Prison areas that contain Cabal. You must defeat a Minotaur nearby to open the prison. Then eliminate the Cabal inside, and you will receive a loot chest as a reward.

- On Mercury, these beautiful vehicles (Interceptors) return, which you can use:
