In Destiny 2, the roadmap for Season 8 is known. Here’s what you can expect in the Season of the Undying after the Shadowkeep launch.
What happens after Shadowkeep? The major autumn expansion Shadowkeep will be released on October 1, 2019, on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam (PC). However, this date is not the only one when new content will go live in Destiny 2 this autumn.
The developers now show in a roadmap when and what to expect in autumn 2019 with Season 8. And the schedule is quite packed.
Some of it is Shadowkeep- and season-exclusive, while other content only requires ownership of the Destiny 2 base game:
Destiny 2 October Roadmap – Raid and Dungeon Launching
What’s planned for October: After the Shadowkeep launch, which is on a Tuesday, the next big content drop will happen that very weekend:
- On October 5, the new Raid and Vex Offensive will launch.
It is known that the Raid is called “Garden of Salvation” and takes you to the Black Garden. You will need the Shadowkeep expansion in your possession for this.
The Vex Offensive will be a new activity about which we still know very little. It is available throughout Season 8 and brings specific loot with it.
- On October 8, heroic and legendary Nightmare hunts will begin. The “Nightmare Hunts” represent a new endgame activity, where new difficulty levels will be unlocked throughout the season. It takes place on the Moon and is Shadowkeep-exclusive.
- On October 15, one week later, Grandmaster Nightmare hunts will become active – likely an even harder version. Additionally, the Iron Banner PvP event will start, which is available for all Destiny 2 owners.

- On October 22, the quest for the Exotic heavy bow “Leviathan’s Breath” will begin. It is known that this bow will only be available through the Season Pass for Season 8.
At the end of October, a larger three-week event will begin, which all Destiny 2 owners can participate in:
- The Festival of the Lost runs from October 29 to November 19. This is the Halloween event in Destiny 2, which last year brought a “Haunted Forest” and masks for dressing up.
- Also on October 29, a dungeon will launch. This refers to an activity similar to the Shattered Throne. In an interview with Bungie, we learned exclusively that a new dungeon activity is planned for Shadowkeep. All Shadowkeep owners will have access to it.
- On the same day, a new PvP mode will go live. It is called “Momentum Control” and likely represents a new version of the Control mode. All Guardians will have access to it.
- Additionally, on October 29, another event will happen: The Exotic quest for the weapon Divinity will begin. We know that Divinity is a trace rifle that is raid-exclusive. Therefore, you will also need the Shadowkeep expansion for the Divinity quest.
In November, the final assault of the Vex Offensive arrives
What to expect in November: While the Festival of the Lost will last until mid-November, something new will start in the raid at the beginning of November.
- On November 5, the 1st raid challenge for Shadowkeep owners will begin. Since it is referred to as the “1st” raid challenge, it can be assumed that there will be more in the future.
In the past, one had to defeat raid bosses in raid challenges in specific ways to earn extra loot.
- On November 19, the final assault of the Vex Offensive will take place.
Bungie announced in advance that something will happen during each future season that will be resolved again at the end of the season. In the Season of the Undying, this refers to the Vex invasion. These Vex invasions are expected to come to an end around November 19.
It is intended to prepare for the events in the next season.
By the way: After the Season of the Undying, three more seasons await you in the Destiny year. According to Bungie, they are full of exploration, rewards, and surprises. There will likely still be some surprises this Season 8 that are not contained in the roadmap.
What do all Guardians receive at the Destiny launch?
The free seasonal updates: Bungie shows on the roadmap graphic which free seasonal updates will be available for everyone starting October 1:
- The destination Moon is open for exploration
- The seasonal artifact, the finisher moves, and armor 2.0 will be available to everyone.
- Two new strikes “The Burdened Core” and “The Crimson Bastion”
- Crucible updates
- The return of the old PvP maps Widow’s Court and Dawn, as well as the new PvP map Fragment
