Season 7 of Destiny 2 brought some changes to the Iron Banner. However, not everyone is happy about it. In particular, the new armor quest for the PvP event has been criticized by many. What do you think about this innovation?
This is the biggest change in the Iron Banner: With Season 7, access to the new seasonal armors has been significantly adjusted, along with some minor changes. The way to earn the new Iron Banner armor pieces has completely changed.
You can learn more about it here: What changes with the Iron Banner in Season 7
How it was before: Last season, the individual armor pieces were still tied to the weekly bounties from Lord Saladin. If you successfully completed them, the items were then available for direct purchase from Lord Saladin. Additionally, you could get them as random drops after Iron Banner matches. All bounties could be completed in parallel.
This is how it is now: If you want event-specific armor pieces from the Iron Banner in the Season of Opulence, you must first embark on a quest. In this framework, you unlock the five individual armor pieces in a total of five steps. Only then can they drop as random rewards after matches.
There is no other way to obtain the new armors. Each step must be completed individually. Progress can only be made when you reach the respective step. You can no longer complete multiple tasks simultaneously, as was possible with the bounties.
This is how fans view the new armor quest from the Iron Banner
What supporters say: For numerous players, this new way is absolutely fine. After all, many wanted more grind and more to do. That is exactly what they have now.
Moreover, the tasks are anything but impossible to master. You just need to put in some effort and will then be rewarded accordingly for your efforts. For dedicated teams, the quest is no problem at all. Many cannot understand the uproar surrounding this change.
What critical voices say: Many other Guardians, however, believe that Bungie has overdone it with the new armor quest “The Power Test”. The current Iron Banner is perhaps the most grind-heavy and annoying that Destiny 2 has ever seen. Especially for solo players or smaller groups, the path to the armor can become a real ordeal.
Because without a fixed team, the Iron Banner is unpredictable. If you’re lucky and hit a good group, you can make progress relatively quickly. If you’re unlucky, for example, the fifth and final step can potentially take up to 50 matches – unless you use a trick.
Generally, the entire quest seems far too focused on monotonous grind, with the steps feeling tedious, artificial, and unnecessarily drawn out for many fans. Additionally, it is sometimes unclear how progress is actually made (especially with grenade kills).
Many preferred the old bounty system and would like to see its return. Some wonder what motivated Bungie to make this decision. However, the prevailing sentiment is that Bungie must definitely improve before the next Iron Banner of Season 7. Because as it stands, the one-week PvP event is not enjoyable for many players at all.
Some even jokingly note that as a “mortal” with a job and personal life, you almost have to take time off if you want to finish at least one character before the reset. To the disappointment of many, progress for the quest is also counted character-wide rather than account-wide.
If you want to unlock Iron Banner armors for all your Guardians, you must tackle this long quest with each one of them. This is hardly possible for working professionals and players with family commitments, according to the criticism. The previous system was significantly better.
