It is no longer a secret: Players do not like the Eververse in Destiny 2. Specifically, the current “Dawning Event” has the reputation of being focused solely on microtransactions. Another point of contention: Double inventory slots for shaders and the reward when dismantling. What is going on?
With the Dawning Event, many new items found their way into the game, which are mainly cosmetic in nature. Many players were upset by this because
- the Dawning Engrams cannot be earned through normal level-ups
- the Dawning Event brought little new content to the game and
- the best-looking armor can only be purchased in the Eververse

Furthermore, more and more Guardians are facing severe inventory issues. Bungie has not expanded the vault since the launch of Destiny 2, and the mod and shader slots are limited. At the same time, the number of available items has steadily increased.
This makes organizing inventory and the vault even more difficult. Guardians have now discovered that certain shaders are stored twice in the inventory, taking up even more valuable space. What is going on?

Same Shader – Different Sources
The new shaders can be obtained in various ways: either directly from the Eververse or as a byproduct from engrams.
This is not particularly remarkable: However, the shaders are stored in different slots in the inventory, although they are completely identical. This drives people crazy because the inventory is already too small and cluttered.
So why is it like this? Why are the same shaders placed in two different slots?
The reason for this is the “reward” you receive when you dismantle such a shader:
- For shaders obtained from engrams, you receive legendary shards when dismantling.
- If you received the shader from the Eververse, the game gives you a whopping 7 Glimmer when dismantling. Glimmer is required to pay for items that can be purchased in the Eververse.
In detail, you can also see this with the well-known streamer Gothalion, who is not amused about the double shaders:
Why did Bungie implement double shaders?
This is a question many Guardians in the community are currently asking. It seems strange due to the scarcity in the inventory. Naysayers claim that Bungie doesn’t even want to grant Guardians the 7 Glimmer obtained when dismantling, and instead prefers to implement two versions of the same shader.
In times when the Eververse is already being critically scrutinized, such actions provide even more fuel for skeptics in the community.

What do you think about it? Justified criticism or a tempest in a teapot?
