In Destiny 2, thanks to the Nightfall, you can quickly acquire the coveted masterwork materials for armor and weapons as well as Exotics with high stat values this week.
This week is special: In Destiny 2, the so-called Weekly Reset takes place on Tuesdays. During the week from August 4 to August 11, one of the easiest and shortest Nightfall strikes is active: Lake of Shadows.
Experienced players complete the mission on normal difficulty in about 3 minutes. Even in the challenging version as Nightfall: The Ordeal, the strike takes significantly less time than other strike missions. After a few attempts, you can get it down to about 15 minutes (The Corrupted usually takes around 45 minutes as Nightfall).
And you should farm the Ordeal of Lake of Shadows this week. Because you have a good chance of:
- Exotics with high stat values (high likelihood)
- Ascendant Shards (on Platinum this is even guaranteed and you have a chance for another)
- Enhancement Prisms (guaranteed)

What are masterwork materials? Ascendant Shards and Enhancement Prisms are needed to upgrade weapons and armor to the highest tiers. Armor, for example, gains more space for powerful mods and a boost to the stat values – but the costs are quite steep.
Currently, the masterwork materials are on everyone’s lips. The reason is the upcoming weapon sunsetting. Legendary armor is also affected. Soon many Guardians will have to look for new masterworks, and therefore need resources.
Masterwork armor is rare and expensive
The sources for the rarest material, the Ascendant Shards, are very limited. Those who do not want to loot the flawless chest from Trials and the Season Pass can be taken advantage of by Banshee-44 at exorbitant prices – or attempt the Nightfall: The Ordeal.
YouTuber Mtashed is therefore convinced that it is currently very worthwhile to farm the “Lake of Shadows” strike. The last time the Nightfalls were so rewarding was when the double loot bug drove players in droves to the strikes.
Successfully complete Lake of Shadows on Top Tier

Things to keep in mind:
- You can skip almost the entire strike; only a few possessed Thralls and mini-bosses need to be defeated to open the barriers – invisibility is helpful here
- For a good final result (Platinum), you should eliminate all champions – this improves loot chances
- Use artifact mods against the champions – you’ll encounter Overload and Unstoppable champions in Lake of Shadows
- The boss can only withstand swords for a few seconds
- Alternatively, use Xenophage to burn through champions and groups of enemies
- Be careful of the nasty “pushing” Thralls; they are more aggressive due to a special modifier
- Prism is active – ideally, cover all three elements
- With the mod “Possessed Armament”, you always refill your heavy ammo.
