The discussions about the possible content of the upcoming second expansion for Destiny 2 are gaining momentum. Currently, images from a concept artist at Bungie are circulating on social media, which may show one of the upcoming locations from DLC II.
Just recently, Bungie’s Game Director Chris Barrett caused quite a stir among Destiny 2 fans when he initiated a heated debate about possible DLC II content with the words “Aurora Retroflex initiated…”
Now, images from Senior Concept Artist Frank Capezzuto of Bungie have sparked further discussions on social media. Fans are speculating whether the images might depict a potential location from the second expansion of Destiny 2.
In light of the already known official information and potential leaked details, these speculations do not seem far-fetched.
Do these images show the Deep Stone Crypt on Mars?
The images depict a distinctive, industrial-looking structure amid an icy landscape. Speculation has begun as to whether this building could possibly be the Deep Stone Crypt – the birthplace of the first Exos in the Destiny universe and a potential location in Destiny 2.
In Destiny’s lore, this crypt is referred to as a tower, which would indeed fit the construction style of the depicted building. For Exos, this place is a sort of sanctuary – many Exos dream of it. The crypt is also believed to be on Mars. It is said that the Exos gained their consciousness here and became more than just machines.
The lore community surrounding the Destiny series has long speculated whether Rasputin could possibly also be an Exo, or whether he transferred into an Exo body, which would give him a physical form.
Even with the existing official information and potential details from leaks, such a location would fit. Both the icy landscape and the possible involvement of Ana Bray would seamlessly integrate into this setting.
Furthermore, the Deep Stone Crypt is said to extend deep below the surface. Parts of the shown building indeed resemble a mine. The architecture suggests that further structures of this building may be found below the surface.
A likely depiction of the crypt on a Titan class item in Destiny looks quite similar to the building in the images upon closer inspection.
