On June 4, 2018, Bungie got the Guardians excited with a teaser trailer for the reveal stream about the plans for Year 2. Both the name and the location of the autumn expansion for Destiny 2 were revealed. However, another detail of the teaser is currently causing discussion.
Bungie wouldn’t be Bungie if there wasn’t an announcement of an announcement. This is also the case for today’s reveal stream. Because today, June 5, at 6:00 PM, the future plans for the second year of Destiny 2 are to be unveiled.
This stream was announced by the studio with a short teaser. The teaser shows a Guardian landing in the Reef together with Cayde-6, thus confirming the theory of many fans who assumed the Reef as the next location. At the same time, the name of the major autumn expansion was also revealed: Forsaken.
However, another detail of the mini-teaser is currently causing debates – especially among new Destiny players.
Both DLCs for Forsaken expansion required
As the disclaimer in the graphic displayed at the end of the teaser states, to play the upcoming Forsaken expansion of Destiny 2, both the base game and DLCs 1 and 2 are required. These are not part of the upcoming addon and are sold separately.
Longtime fans have expected this: Most Destiny veterans should already know this from the “King’s Fall” expansion for Destiny 1. This addon also required owning the DLCs “House of Wolves” and “The Taken King.” However, for some new players who joined with Destiny 2, this information came as a surprise.
New players are somewhat surprised: Many “fresh” Guardians expected that the expansion would not require the previous DLCs. Because DLC 1 is not strictly needed to play DLC 2. Thus, in the end, players are still forced to acquire the previous expansions – even if they didn’t want to.
Bundles as a consolation: It is, however, highly likely that there will be special bundles for Forsaken alongside a standalone version, which will include all previous DLCs and allow for a cost-effective purchase as a complete package. This was also the case with King’s Fall.
