In Destiny 2, the release month for the 2nd expansion has been officially confirmed.
Game Director Christopher Barrett recently presented 26 new features that will be implemented in Destiny 2 this spring. He listed only things that will be free for all Destiny 2 Guardians.
Many players subsequently wondered: “What about the second expansion? When is it supposed to be released?” Because it is not mentioned in the roadmap for spring, but as one could infer from a DLC graphic, it should be released in spring 2018.
- Barrett has now responded to these questions and confirmed via Twitter: The second expansion will be released in May along with Season 3.
The 2nd DLC launches in May 2018
Already at Christmas, a leak appeared, mentioning May as the release date for the 2nd expansion. This month has now been officially confirmed.
The first reactions to this date are mixed:
- The DLC is releasing way too late. There are still months to go before new content arrives. Additionally, Bungie is not living up to the promised “ongoing stream of content.” The DLC releases of Destiny 2 do not differ at all from those of Destiny 1. In 2015, House of Wolves was also released in May.
- Others find it good that Bungie is taking their time to polish the DLC. They would rather have a solid DLC than an expansion that is released prematurely.
What is already known about the 2nd DLC?
Besides the release month, we only know the official DLC graphic so far: It features a Warmind and a mysterious woman, who is likely Ana Bray.

However, several leaks have appeared in recent weeks that consistently name the title “Gods of Mars” for the 2nd DLC and list a few features.
According to the leaks, the DLC will take us to the ice caps of Mars, where we are to follow a mysterious signal. There, we must stop the machinations of a Warmind who wants to destroy the Traveler. Whether this scenario is truly accurate remains to be seen.
